My brakes are fawked.

What happened recently is when I'm driving and I press down the brake pedal, I get almost NO brake response. I have to pump the brake pedal about 3x every time I stop to get normal brake feedback.

My Architechture teacher who used to be a mechanic told me it might be my brake master cylinder, the rubber seals within are leaking.

My mechanic tells me my master cylinder is shot.

My car is at the shop right now for some installs/repairs.

What do you guys think this problem could be?

I havn't tried bleeding the brakes yet.

sounds like air in the brake lines. either bleed the brakes and see if the problem comes back, or listen to your mechanic, and replace the master cylinder.

it's your brake master cylinder. I would upgrade to stainless steel lines also.

have you done anything with the brake system recently? if you have cracked the lines for some odd reason (installing pads or cause you like bleeding brake fluid) then you might have air i the line. but if you havent done that well than 99.9% its you brake master cylinder.

my master cylinder went bad and introducted air into the lines. The local dealer actually said it happens alot on maximas. Replace.

I do NOT suggest stainless lines, personally. Though I have them , all of the research I have done on the subject suggests they are potentially dangerous if not maintained and checked properly, particulary if not a top-quality brand. I periodically do a close inspection of them.

Oh, and I noticed ABSOLUTELY NO braking improvement or pedal feel difference when I switched to SS lines. Just a "bling" mod, in my opinion.

i also researched a bit on SS lines, and decided against them....since i don't go to the track that often (actually maxus will be my first time) I won't be checking my brakes again for a while after i change them, and i want to keep it that way....here, there's a lot of road debris and dust that could get stuck in the lines, potentially causing a leak, and i REALLY don't want that to happen, so i'll just save my $85 and stick with OEM

I had this happen on my '00 GLE. Everything checked out fine. In the owners manual, there is a section on this, i forget the title, but you have to pump the brake pedal, start the car, turn it off etc..Look in the manual and do what it says. If you cant find it, let me know and I'll look it up for you.
