Stop and Go = High Idle

I have posted about this before without any results. I have been driving in stop and go traffic recently and my idle keeps jumping up when I do (1000 is drive and closer to 13 in park). As soon as I start driving at normal, consistant speeds again everything goes back to normal. I have no idea what this could be, but my extended warranty runs out in August. Anyone have any ideas at all?

You definitely have a bad Idle Air Control Valve, or IACV.

About $200 at Courtesy Nissan, or somewhat more at your local dealer.

Replace it yourself and save some money. It is not difficult.

Bad IACV killed the ECU?

Hello,
I just experienced the same problem with my 2001 (78k miles) and took it to my local repair shop. They charged me $500 for a new IACV and then told me that the ECU was damaged by the bad IACV. The 'good' news (yeah right) was that the ECU is covered by Nissan's 8 year 80,000 mile warranty. They told me to take it to the dealer to get the warranty repair. Now the dealer is telling me that the ECU is in fact NOT covered by the 8 yr/80,000 warranty because the bad IACV(which is not covered) damaged it. Now they want $1150 to replace the ECU. I'm pretty sick to my stomach right now about this car ... is the Dealer being honest? Also, looks like I got $crewed by paying $500 for a new IACV huh?
Thanks in advance,
Ed

After hammering Nissan customer service and 2 different dealers ... I now realize that I am out of luck. I am looking for a junkyard ECU for my 2001 automatic, but found good ebay deals on a 2000 ecu or a 2002 ecu. Will these work with my 2001? (assuming they are both automatics). Will I need to have the ecu reprogrammed at a dealer?
Thanks,
Ed
