Need Help with spring install pics inside

Hey guys heres some pics from tonight. I got one spring/shock off the front and got one Eibach/tokico installed in its place.

I ran into a couple difficulties. I was wondering if I could get some clarification on. First of all my dustboots are kinda beat up, when you expand them some holes show up. I installed the first one reusing the factory dust boot, I think it will be alright for the next couple years. When I trimmed the bumpstop though now it wont stick to the top hat and it sometimes falls down and doesnt even cover the rod of the strut which its supposed to protect. Also the clip that holds the brake line to the shock wont go on completly and is just kinda hangin off right now but the brake line is still on there pretty sturdy

I have arrows to show the direction the dustboot falls, and the clip I'm talking about. Check it out

Also I got the rear springs with the isolators on one side but I think the guy who had them before installed the isolator on the wrong side. It looks like the thinner side of the rear springs should be on the bottom and thats where the spring isolator should be. The spring on the left is me trying to put the spring isolator on the side I think it should be and the spring on the right is how I got the springs with what looks like the isolator on the wrong side of the spring.

Cutco, Good for cutting bumpstops! I knew I sold these things for a reason.

My garage, Wheres waldo?

well to answer your dust boot question, my dustboots were ziptied down on the bottom to keep them to stay down all the way. All of them are like that, so maybe you could just ziptie them down. The brake line, as long as it wont fall of or get caught on anything it should not be a problem. as for the isolaters, i dont remember but I though that the small side went on the top and the isolaters go on the bottom. So you might be putting them on wrong, not 100% clear on that though, so let someone else chime in to confirm that.

1. yes, the isolators should be on the BOTTOM of the springs. The narrow end - the writing on the springs should be readable, not upside down.

2. don't worry about the bump stops/boots. Whne the car is down on its wheels, the struts will compress enough and the boots will cover the piston fine. Mine are all torn up like yours....need to get some new ones eventually.

3. to get the brake line into the clip, look closely at it. It has a little triangular edge that fits into a similar slot on the strut bracket. When you align them correctly, the line fitting will come up through the hole in the bracket enough to put the clip all the way on. Use a small hammer or somethings to knock the clip into place when it's aligned. Aligning it is kind of frustrating, but if you look CLOSELY at it, you should be able to figure it out pretty easily.

good luck!

I have a question about this...my dustboots are the same as skiff's; when i cut them, they wouldn't stay in place (i actually glued them, but it came undone haha)

So today i looked at it while getting my tires balanced and the dustboot is all the way down on the white part of the strut and wasn't covering the piston rod...is this bad? what can i do to fix it? i can slide the dustboot up to cover the piston rod, but it just slides back down again whenever i hit a bump....

How important is it really to keep dust out of the shock area? Also I think one of the shock rods (the rod the dust boot is supposed to cover) got hit near the top hat and put a little nick in it. Right on the side of the shock it says that nicks in that rod will compromise the sealing mechanism of the shock and void the warranty... so... I think the nick is close enough to the top hat that, that part of the rod will never be compressed into the shock but still it makes me nervous. This is my first real suspension install.. hell this is my first major install at all.

Let me tell you its a good workout compressing springs with hand tools, we are going to try to rent and air compressor tomorrow and get this done faster.

Yeah we used contact cement but I dont think that gonna help either, as the person above said I am going to ziptie mine at the bottom and that should hold it up

The 02-03 has a different dustboot/bump stop setup from the 00-01, which is why my cut bumpstops/old dustboots don't have the "falling down" problem. Sorry, can't help there - don't recall what the top looks like

The nick probably won't be a problem if it's up near the top....

She actually bought it because she was lookin for a sporty little car, and she liked the G35 more than an early 90s porsche. She got the idea for the G35 after driving and liking my car.

Bet your butt I did. I had to show the 2 silver Infinitis together. That thing sits there and mocks me. Because to get me insured on it so I could drive it would cost an arm and a leg, Massachusetts has some of the highest insurance rates in the country, really only second to Jersey. Thus I've never been able to drive it. I am so glad that the day she bought it I got to test drive it before she bought it so I know for a fact its BARELY faster than my car, so I dont feel too bad but it does handle better, which these springs/shocks should help with. Plus I think my car will look better after the drop.

I also took this pic but I didnt feel the need to include it
but seeing how the G is being commented on

yeah, i guess that sounds like a good idea...i might try that later whenever i find some time, because i really don't want to go too much further with the piston rods uncovered....

Its an auto and the 5sp tranny is really what makes the difference in speed. My 4sp auto really sucks in comparison.

I would say a 6sp max with a good driver would deff take an auto G35.

BTW the Black Springs on White Shocks on a silver car looks SO SEXXAY!

I am psyched. By the way I found a good race shop in NH that may be able to do the SFCS, and I've decided after so much sweating and frustration over the bolted in section. I have decided I am probably going to weld in stage 2 which meens It will never be a good auto X car because I will be in an insane class, but I am planning on getting a weekend racer anyway just for Auto X and roadracing and even some drag racing.

A RX7 with an LS1 is what I have in mind. 11.9 quarter mile with the stock LS1 and the stock RX7 speaks for its self when it comes to handling. Much less when you start adding mods.

I second that.

Actually, my '01 5-spd GXE can beat an auto G35 because I did. Also, the auto G35 driver doesn't really matter much --> meaning it is all up to the 5-spd Maxima drive :-)
