ANOTHER y-pipe question

I know there are a ton of these, haha i was just wondering though(its actually kinda dumb) I know the cali-spec max's have the front precat in the manifold and the rear in the y-pipe. Now when you put an aftermarket y on, it only eliminates the rear one, say i did that without going all out and doing the fed-spec conversion, technically the front cylinder bank is making less power than the rear, are there any bad effects of that either engine-wear wise or emissions wise? Or is it a negligable difference between one bank not having a precat anymore? I know running with one less precat is fine as long as the main one works fine right?

I don't know if this answers your question, but the rear precat is very restrictive in it's design. The front precat is much less restictive so not as much gain when removing. Headers would eliminate both precats lol. I'm running the cattman y on my cali spec and no problems. Just my .02.

thats why equal length headers make more power besides the less restriction, they allow both banks the same distance and restriction. which then have both banks working evenly and more efficently. least as afar as i undertand things

Hello... I have a 2001 nissan maxima w/ 98k miles on it. I always service my car to the dealer religiously until the last time I dropped off my car for 90k service w/ no knocking noise or whatsoever...so quite engine and when I pick it up, my car sounds like a sports car. I called them the next day, I asked them and they told me that my cat converter or the pipe need to be change. They give me a quote of $ 1k for that w/ my 10% deduction as a member of the club. Since then I did not bring my car to the dealer and besides it is out of warranty. My car still in good shape but I am planning to purchase the right cat converter or the service guy in the dealer called it exhaust pipe. I found lots of kind of cat converter in the internet which added to my confusion, what will be the best cat converter for my 2001 nissan maxima. Any suggestion is very much welcome and honestly I did my first change oil last saturday w/ the help by reading the posting from maxima lovers like me. Thank you and I am waiting for any suggestion...Jason

1K is a ripoff. You can get a quality hi-flow y-pipe and cat from Cattman.com for around $500.
