coilovers...

did rears last saturday, just a few pictures...

well, the thing is actually MUCH shorter then i expected... i used a jack to lift the rear beam up in order to get the lower bolt in.

even with this drop the front end on teins is like 10 mm lower then the back.
but this was the first try, i ended up with unscrewing the lower part of the strut; takes 10 full turns to make it 20 mm longer, so now it seats a bit less then an inch higher, but still not as high as it was when i had teins in there.
i can't really comment the handling at this point, the front is not done yet.

I've spent the last three weeks adjusting my D2's so that the ride was perfect. Something I noticed was that on the rear's, I had to pre-load the springs with the locking nuts by a good 1/2". Now that I did that and don't have the front too low, my car is as smooth as stock, but as stiff as anyone in their right mind would want it. Just some advice.

While your at it I strongly suggest that you buy some Energy Suspension coilover insulator, there like 8$ per pair but it make a whole world of difference. Once install properly your coilover will be much quiet and it also soften the ride, because there is no more metal on metal. How do I know ? I've been running the D2 for almost 2 year now and trust me your happyness will quickly become a nightmare. PM me if you want details.

Cheers

no, i did not take his, i've got a set for myself, but these are a bit smaller...
do not know what rates the springs are...
rears have rubber insulators on the top of the springs, but nothing on the bottom. I have not heard any noises tho. As for the ride, the rear feels firm/a bit harsh (i still have s-techs in front), the car turns with less effort, i would say it's almost neutral in balance .
here is another angle:

becuz, as far as i know, 5th gen ksports do not come with rear hats...you must re-use your stock ones...same with D2 coilovers

it's always been like that...UNLESS, ksports recently changed the design...but as far as i know, they are still the same old design...and you must reuse your rear hats....the one you have in your picture already includes a rear hat so I asked if you got a 4th gen kit (cuz 4th gens come with the hats)

they must have changed it, since 1. they came with the top plates/hats, 2. 4th gen hats are way different from 5th gen and can not be used here unless machined/modified. well, that can be done

make triple sure that you got the right set. There was at least one case where someone received a 4th gen set.

So based on the information from this thread, either that is a 4th gen rear coilover or a revised 5th gen rear coilover with top hat? Will the front/rear 4th gen coilover fit a 5th gen with no modifications? That just gives the 5th gen guys more buying options.

you are correct....it could possibly go either way....either ksports have UPDATED their 5th gen coilover lineup...and now include top hats for the rear...or he could have gotten a 4th gen setup...which is a direct fit according to that one guy in the thread...

i'm not sure if the fronts would fit...but its an issue going on with the ksports thread...check it out

Are your shocks blown? If not, I might have an interested person to purchase them from you.

I would send ksport an email or call them or something to ask about the struts.

let's keep it simple: 1). i got rears with tops/hats installed on the struts. 2). 4th gen tops/hats (NOT shocks/struts itself) WILL NEVER FIT IN without extensive machining of ether hats or strut seats in the car. These came completly assembled and went in without any problem. Something tells me i got the right ones. As for the fronts, it's going to be "part 2" some time next week.

Then either 4th gen or 5th gen strut (with no hat) can be installed. That apparently works, and that's exactly what i did when my brother had 5th gen illuminas/springs in his '96. But... on regular struts there is a dif between 4th and 5th gen design, top end of the shaft is difrnt, bottom seat for springs (and springs accordnly) is difrnt dia also. Do not know if ksport struts itself differ for 4th and 5th gen.

well, look on the picture of his ksports in the box... I personally do not see any hats for the 2 rear struts . What did he use? Anyway, mine are in, not much to complain about.

How did you manage $700 shipped when they are listed for $1150 on their website??
