Highest Amount of Miles you'd take on a 5.5th Gen

As the title says, I'd like to know from the Org whats the highest amount of acceptable miles you'd buy a 02/03 Maxima. At what amount would you be like.. Whoa, WTF!?? Where were they driving to? Price doesn't matter.

HOLY S#it WOW. That's pretty amazing. Any noticable problems due to the milage or is everything smooth?

And I've been looking at some 90-100K miles 5.5 Gens for about 9 and under. Some of these dealers dont want to budge though.

id say 130k is reaching the high end, somewhere around 60-80k seems normal to me.

everything over 36 is a lot of miles on a 3 year old car.... you should look for one under 65k just to be ok... remember the VQ3.5 is a great powerplant.. not as good as the 3.0 but it is ok...

That would be nice to have a low milage max like my last. But I sadly only have 10k to spend (not trying to Finance). I'm just trying to replace my crashed 5th gen with a 5.5 that will hold me over for 2-3 years or so.

Keep in mind the last 03's were manufactured in January of 03. So essentially it's a 4 y/o car.

My mother just got her 03 SE TE with 18k on it, and paid $18k, which I thought was a little high, but apparently not according to kelly blue book.
My 2k I found with every option available on the 2k GLE (except the damn sunroof) and with ghetto rigged HID's and Ghetto rims with 90k miles on it, the guy was asking 8k but I got it for 6500.

I would think $9k for an 02 with 75k on it would be good or an 03 with 85-90k tops would be a pretty good deal, as long as the car was in good shape.

I know I'll get 250k out of my max, I had a 94 that had 198k miles on it and was still kickin when we donated it to our church, I also had a J30 (pretty much same engine) that I had 180k on before I sold it.

Nope, no noticable problems. Car runs great, transmission shifts smooth. You would never know the mileage by looking at it.

Good luck with your search!

If all else fails. Mabey I can look toward a 2k-2k4 Mustang GT.

EDIT::
Going tommorow to look at a 109K max. Asking price is $9495. What do u think I should offer.. $8500/8900? White SE 2002, no sunroof though (don't care if its there or not).

Then there's another in Jersey (Sterling Silver) Fully loaded with leather, looks like an ORG member already owned this once. Otto racing tower brace, slotted rotors, ram air intake, 6 speed with 101k. Asking price is $9995. Offered the dealer $8590 on his website. Lets see if he bites.

Am I being too nice by not offering like 7K for these cars? lol

thats great, but thats not a 5.5 gen.

my 03 is about to break 100k and theres no major problems with it. the ses light has been on a while but its nothing major and i dont think out of the 4 maximas ive owned that i havent had a code thrown, but again they were all something trivial like an o2 sensor. car still shifts silky smooth and runs just as strong as new.

84k on my '02 and don't see why I couldn't double that with proper maintenance.

130K on my 2002, and I don't see why it won't make it to 230k with maintenance. I have codes for 02 sesnors now, but that's it. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever. I'm in the process of selling it now, though.

I don't feel so bad now. I've racked up over 80,000 on my 03. Thought it was getting too high. (living far from family= lots of road trips) Everything mechanical is on point, few interior quirks that I'm working on.

The price seems a bit high. How do you know the dealers won't budge? The salesmen aren't going to drop their pants just because you ask what the lowest price is.

Here's what you do. Go check out the car and make sure it's the one for you. Let them write up the deal (which will be in the clouds). Counter their offer with around $5,500 plus taxes, fees etc... Stick to that # no matter what they say or do. They'll keep lowering the price in small amounts. If they don't do that price then leave. They won't let you leave without giving you the best price. Take that # and leave. The # you leave with should be the best they will do. By leave I mean drive off the property. Call them back in about an hour and buy the car.

Salesmen and dealers are motivated by customers who will buy on the spot. Not people asking about price but not commited to buying a car.

Once those cars reach the 90k mark they get very hard to sell since most people can't finance a car with that kind of milege. The dealers don't offer much on trade in for them. They'll want to sell the car.

Lets see....
99k on my 2k1 and I replaced the alternator, battery, brakes, and speed sensor. Everything else was optional. Soooooo, outside of the speed sensor I only made regular replacements (for a car with 99k!).

Some people you will need to entice, offer the guy some 'what if' scenarios. Remember:

They won't let you leave without giving you the best price. Take that # and leave. The # you leave with should be the best they will do. By leave I mean drive off the property. Call them back in about an hour and buy the car.

GLE with everything except heated seats, auto, w/ 44k miles on it.
Did I get a good deal?

Didnt read this before I went. Either way, when I did go to check out the car, the battery was dead and there was no Gas to keep the engine running. I carried on about me wasting my time and driving from afar. So made an appointment to test drive the car tommorow.
This is the White 02 SE/no sunroof 109k miles and they are asking $9500. Gonna offer 7000-7500 plus ttt and see where he's comming from and pull your trick.

The alternative was to walk in there with my Dad in his Cop Uniform (his precint isn't too far from the dealer) and squeeze the guy for some more off. . We'll see how it goes. If not, I'll just have to move on and keep searching right?. And thanks Derrick2k... for the advise, among with everyone else.

Sounds good but start lower. I sell cars for a living and we take Maxinas like this in for way less than KBB value. I always rip peoples heads off on Maximas because I know the cars well and the trade in value sucks for such a nice car. People don't know how low we buy them for and they'll pay all the money. Start your offer under $6,000 and don't move till you come back after leaving. You can always raise your offer but there is no going backwards. Just be strong about it. These guys aren't your friends and it doesn't matter what they think of you. When you leave with the car they'll either say "what an @ss hole" or "man, I ripped his head off".

Remember, their customer base for a car like this is really small. To finance a car with 100,000 miles takes great credit. Most people with that kind of credit are buying new cars or low milege used cars. Most people with the cash to buy the car are using it as a down payment on a lower mile car. Unless this is a buy here pay here lot the car is kind of a b@stard to them and will probably end up being sent to auction.

BTW Dad in his cop uniform won't mean squat. If dad knows cars he may help but they won't be shaken by the uniform one bit.

Let us know how it turns out and let me know if you have any questions.

Doesn't sound too bad. I would have tried to squeeze him for 10k flat or a lil less, but that sounds good nevertheless.

i just paid 11,500 for my new to me 01 Maxima SE 5Spd with 50k. Every option available. I thought it was a good deal. It was a private owner buy, the car was in excellent condition. Needs brakes and just noticed a slight rattle in the exhaust... KBB private seller in good condition had it for $11700.

Thoughts?

nah there is nothing reall that I know about the place. They are just very close to where I work. (Atlantic and Washington Ave. cashier in a car wash). That maxima has been on the lot for a while now. Take it for a test drive and see how it is. I just don't know why the battery would be dead. I am sure you can talk them down on the price just because of the duration of time that the car has been sitting there. They probably want to see it gone. Good Luck
