QX4, what exactly comes up when you put the program disc in? What should happen, after you convert / burn the iso and put it in the slot is a program menu comes up. You then select the upgrade you want to do.

Also, when you put the discs from other regions in, it sometimes will not work depending on your location in the world. The reason for this is because, for some reason, Zenrin did the programming so it would look for your location on the CDs map, not your location and then zoom out. So, if you were in, say, California and popped in the disc for Miami, it wouldn't register unless you zoomed all the way out on your California disc and then put in the Miami disc... and even then its not guaranteed to work.

Anyway, if the discs just plain aren't reading, let me know. I know that the vast majority of them work, at least in my system. I've not DLed / burned / tested the program disc yet so I'll do that and let you know how it goes.

gotta love the new guys who want to PM, i had to do the same thing.

anyway, when i put it any of the discs, MCAS of all versions even the 5.1s (my current version of MCA 7 is v5.0) they all say the cd cannot be read or incorrect cd data or something along those lines however, when i put in the program disc it said something like this "this cdrom version cannot be read"...i am still waiting for my program disc from zenrin it should be here by wednesday so i will install the update then try mca9v5.5 if it does not work i am assuming i am burning wrong

I’ve just bought an Infiniti i35 with GPS navigation system. It came with only one map cd (MCA 3), and I’m moving to MCA 4. I’m wondering how can I get a copy of the MCA 4 cd?

Thks,

You can play DVD's but....

Probably not the answer you were looking for, though.
Barc is exactly right about the only way to use the OEM Navi to play DVD's in this manner. But it's not easy .. or cheap to do it. I have mine set up for it (might be the only one in the US) but the Navi unit itself has to be rewired internally to accept outside input. The good news is our screens are very high resolution compared to most monitors you see. We have v-synch and h-synch which most monitors don't have. Result is awesome resolution. There is a company in NY that you can send the unit to to get the mod (they did mine to see if it could be done).
I don't regret doing it one bit though. Flip a switch between Navi input or DVD Player (in dash) or backup camera. Great for long trips.
Barc have we gotten a v5.6 MCA9 yet. And are all the other regions filled in to at least 5.1?

I haven't seen any MCA 5.6's yet. Sigh. I hope Zenrin hasn't forgotten about us.

I wanted to chime in about Shaydz's setup but didn't know if he'd want the attention! We discussed it previously and from what he explained to me, it is an undertaking that should only be done by those with experience and who don't mind being without their climate control (possibly car) for a few... But, the results look to be great. OEM look and feel DVD capability.

Depends on the year model of your car (and Navi). If it is an 03 or newer then you can get an aftermarket RGB converter (no serious mod on Navi). But if it is a Navi from the 5.5 Gens (2001-2002 Navi I think), then an internal modification is needed.
Here is a post from the past that I mention the place that can do the mod and/or get the RGB interface.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....light=navi+dvd
You will have to remove your Navi and be without it for a week or so (no climate control either so set it to what you will always want for the week).

I'm not sure how much Dom is charging now for the mod. but his phone number number is in the post.

Shaydz

Dom will not do it anymore. I have a 1st gen nav on a 2003 and he said no. He said it was too time consuming and when he was doing to installation he wanted at the time 300 for installation on top of the price of the converter on top of having to ship you whole nav unit with insurance to him(over 500 for everything). 2004+ are cut and play. 2003- has ribbon connectors.

Sorry about that. I remember sending you to him too. Did he say he'd done any others besides mine? I guess being the first sometimes has benefits.
Mine was his exploratory-look-see. He was able to modify it and said he'd do others but it was a lot of work. Once again - sorry about pointing you in the wrong direction. Perhaps he'd give you the instuctions / schematics so someone else could acccomplish it?

I ended up buying a fold out in dash dvd player and doing a custom installation with both the nav and the dvd unit so it works for me. You did get lucky when he did yours that is for sure since you were the first and the only car that he did the install for. You didnt know that he wasnt going to do it anymore due to the high level of difficulty. I doubt he would give the instrutions to anyone. I tried to get it from him and he said the level of difficulty is way to high for anyone to do. Oh well.....

I'm still wondering if somebody could help me with MCA4 CD (for i35 – 2002). I’m gonna hit the road this weekend. I only have the MCA3 CD, and I'll be driving from Nebraska to Texas.
