Funny Feeling in steering

When making a sharp turn (onramp/offramp to a freeway) there is a lot of force in the steering fighting against me. Any ideas what would cause this? It's almost as if when I want to turn right, the car wants to stay straight and fights me turning it. It's an 02 SE 6 speed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

My first guess is your power steering belt is loose/slipping. When was the last time they were changed?

I have to assume it's orignal. I've just had the car a few months. I hope you're right cause that's simple enough.

Could it be your not used to the torque steer yet? Power + FWD = torque steer.

No it's not torque steer. It happenes even when the vehicle is coasting. Is there a certain type of fluid you guys would recommend for the steering? I'm thinkin I might change it since I have no way of knowing how old it is and see if that helps (along with the belt).

Mine has been doing that since I got it. I thought it was supposed to be that way. Isn't that like speed sensitive steering or something like that?

I'm pretty sure what you are experiencing is normal. I've driven many other cars and the Maxima has a very firm steering radius. If it's too strong then the 1st thing i would do it take the car to an alignment shop and make sure that there is not problems with the toe. I doubt it's a problem, but having your alignment done every year or so is a real good idea, because if there is a problem it could easily be identified.
