Interior Painting and Replacement Project, 56K Beware!!!!!!
Interior Painting and Replacement Project, 56K Beware!!!!!!
Hey guys, Well I started to tackle a very big project like metal is doing. I am going to paint my interior, change seats, carpet, roof. Im sick and tired of that boring tan colors
Well The colors I used if you can not really tell them in the photos are:
Top: Black base with silver flakes, so a kind of dark charcoal color that shimmers in the light.
Bottom, Plain Gray tone color.
7 hours later this is what I came to:
2 doors, molding along bottom and pillar in middle of car.

What you guys think? I know that tan seats doesnt match for right now but i waiting for my black leather seats to come in.
Anyone got any ideas on how to remove the front dash?

I gonna try tie everything in to gether, the tan on the door the material is gonna be charcoal speaker box color, so is the flooring. thats why I wanted gray to make it not too dark inside and have a bit of contrast.
How is the durability of the silver flake and black vinyl paint? I'm curious because I've always wanted to paint the upper portion of my dash and trim as well. Do either of the flake or black paint rub off easily? I ask becuase I tend to rest my arm right next to the window.
Its hard to scratch off. It could be that i have 3 layers of clear coat that could be the reason. But it seems to work.
I went 2 layers of adhesive, 3 layers of color, 3 layers of top coat clear. 1 layer of armor all.

I've done some DIY paintwork on metal and plastic, and i can vouch for the clear-coating. hold the can at the specified distance and mist it on. seems like the more coats you do the deeper the finish and the better it will hold out, but im willing to bet that after 5 coats of clearcoat it's just a waste. I love the silverflaked black upper!
Update, rear 2 doors are done, that materal that is on the door is berber carpet. with no thick backing so its easier to mold.
That is the same thing that is going to go on the floor, (Easier to clean) I am not sure if I want it on the roof though. What you guys think?

Really good job... As far as the headliner that would be straight. However, get some good adhesive. I tried 85 / 90 adhesive from homedepot and got ****. The material was mad light but still fell after awhile. I blamed it on the heat in Florida... so I like to think.
After it was said and done I just painted out the headliner with the VHT dye.

I think whatever style you go, just make sure the rest of the car matches, and it'll turn out great. Nice work. If nothing else, you're going to have a unique car that people will admire.
