looking 4 vb mod instructions, parts list
#1
I was wondering if anyone has tried to post instructions and a parts list needed for a vb mod on a 5th generation.
I would like to do my own. I cant afford to be with out car. Sending it off is not an option unless there is a core replacement to install first. I would like Don to do it but I do not know if a 5th generation core is out there.
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Fast Walker

There are no instructions for a DIY VB recalibration. Instructions can be posted, but that would drive Don out of business. I'm sure he has shown a few people the recalibration process, but none of those people (me included) would dare tell/show anyone else... it's sort of like patient-doctor confidentiality.
He doesn't have any 5th gen cores, so you'll have to send your VB to him.

So a little help would be nice. Maybe a private e mail instead of posting would be ok. I am going to my mechanic for the work. If someone was willing to have there vb sent from Dons to me I would pay $100.00 for the privilege and fed ex mine back to Dons within hours.
I am on the road 6 days a week and with family on the 7th.

As much as I would want to share, Don would be REALLY upset if I did. Plan B seems to be your best bet unless you can get a VB from a junkyard.

Uhmmmmmm..... you can try Copartfinder (check Parts List), AutoGator (check Parts List), http://www.woodfins.com
There are more, but I don't know them off the top of my head. Good luck in your search.

You can contact The Transmission Superstore at http://www.txchange.com/
It should be noted you'll probably have to drill your VB.
This is the e-mail I received from them when I inquired about a shift kit for a 2000 Maxima:
K® RE4F04A
$49.50
Nissan Quest Altima Maxima DOHC RE4R01A
Mercury Villager 4F20E 4 speed
Corrects/Prevents/Reduces:
prevents direct clutch blowout caused by runaway line pressure; Burned 3rd
clutches; No 2nd; No 3rd after 3-2 or 4-2 kickdown
Direct clutch inner seal leaks, wears or opens due to rotating force;
Corrects soft 1-2 and 2-3
We accept all major credit cards, Please call 800-776-1191
(503-284-0768) or fax 503-280-1655 to order.
Thank you for the inquiry, Greg

As for a used/second VB, the places I have contacted would not seperate the VB from the transmission: salvage yards want you to purchase the whole transmission only to get the VB. I think the going rate is about $1,500.

I'm assuming that kit is very similar to the TransGo shift kit. I've seen Don's process and participated in doing the TransGo. IMHO, there is NO comparison... Don's VB comes out on top.
Take note, the TransGo kit is irreversable.
