Accident

So my wife and I were taking a short trip for our 10 year wedding anniversary. I was driving and had stopped off the interstate for some gas, needed to make a left turn on the frontage road (4 lane) to get to the gas station. Drive in closest lane left a gap as his lane was backed up due to redlight, and he waved me through - I checked and triple checked the outside lane, saw no cars approaching, so I made the left and got hit. The side impact air bag went off on the pass side, but the other ones did not. My wife was sitting on the passenger side, and other than some minor bruses, seems ok. Thank God for side impact beams and air bags.

Had to have it towed to a local body shop, but impressed with them on the short meeting (they also do street rods). Got their initial estimate, and it seems high... so I don't know what insurance is going to do.

It's a 2002 Maxima SE, 6 speed manual, leather, sunroof, GPS, Bose system with 6 disc changer in trunk, the funky head lights, power both front seats, heated seats/steering wheel, and more that I probably can't remember (it has every option I think).

Looks like there's some serious frame damage. Do you have any pics of the undercarriage?

I don't think it's a good idea to fix this car if the frame is indeed seriously damaged...

I'm happy to hear that you and your wife are both ok, for the most part. I do hate to say it, but I'm putting my money on that your car is totalled. Sorry your anniversary took such a bad turn.

yeah that sucks... side impacts always mess up the structure of the car and it's usually not worth fixing.

Just as a side note - the guy who waved you through the intersection is legally responsible. Most people don't know this, but by waving someone to go ahead, you're indicating that the way is clear and if the other person gets in an accident, you're at fault. =/

I got t-boned at an intersection and it almost looked like that on the side, but it wasnt this deep in.... My girl who was on the passenger seat was pushed in, but perfectly alright...

Glad to you hear that you two are okay!
I have to say that Maximas can take a good beating, but save the occupants in most cases...

The repairs are estimated to be $15k or more, and since the accident happened about 4 hours away from home, it's at a body shop where the accident happended, so I can't get there to pull any parts.

So Insurance totalled it, got the check. I've got some stuff from it I'll be posting in the forsale forum (winter tires, cd changer cassette, remote fob, gps cd's)

We looked at a 04 Maxima SE, and it was nice, but my wife chose a 06 Mazdaspeed 6 instead. I think I like the looks of the 5th gen better than the 6th.

Not true at all. The driver of the car is responsible for making sure it is safe to cross.

Glad to hear you're both okay. In the end, that's really all that matters. My Maxima looks identical to your's. I'd love to have had those leather seats. Well, the GPS too for that matter. My Dad once got into an accident like your's. He was waiting to turn left into a grocery store parking lot and couldn't really see the oncoming traffic too well. At the time there were some union strikers in front of the grocery store and they waived him in, even yelling that it was safe to make the turn. It wasn't. Luckily the oncoming car was only going around 20mph when they collided.

Of course it was my Dad's fault the accident happened, as he had pulled out in front of someone. He was none too happy though that he had wrecked his Lexus though!

Hey! That is no way to respond, no matter who you are! Your question about "did u get to take out navigation?" was kind of stupid, as the system isn't removable, at least not with out taking the dash out. Now maybe your new to cars with built in GPS systems, and didn't know that, but now you do. Also, most insurance companies do not let you strip the car if they total it - common knowledge.

And this is the internet - don't get your undies in a bunch when someone you don't and will probably never meet says something you don't like.

Also, quick lesson here: when referring to yourself, it is proper to use "I" rather than "i" and when referring to someone else, "you" rather than "u". There is no excuse for poor grammar or punctuation (or spelling since this is on a computer).

Have a nice day.

okay first of all, no I am not new to cars i have been working on cars for years. secondly what does my punctuation have to do with anything, we are on a forum, I'm not writing a report. Thirdly if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it. thats it. . . and where does it say you had stock navi, it wasnt a stupid question to me because I assumed the navi was after market.
