GM's have this safety feature....

Not the A Maximas (32/33/33B) I've done it by accident a few times, not anywhere near that RPM though, still does it and can make some cringe.

I know for a fact 3rd gens didn't have the safety feature...

But there's only one way to find out and why not on the OP's Maxima since he wants to seek the death penalty for his tranny.

I used to neutral drop my 97 SE Maxima. Not often, but when I wanted to make a nice burn-out show it worked well for me. Dunno how much damage I did to my tranny, by brother wrecked it before tranny went bad. But I know it did sustain a beating and kept on going.

I thought he wanted to kill it... there's plenty of obvious ways to go about ruining your transmission.. jsut be smart about it- remember, you don't want the service guys to get suspicious...

Prolong the life? make sure the fluids always clean, don't drive like you stole the car.. get a tranny cooler too maybe..

Ill feel bad doing nuetral drops and all that- I love my car to much. But I really do a new tranny, and I cant do something like drive with no fluid- to obvious. Ill just keep downshifting into 1st doing 35. And more redline driving. Plus, I think this tranny is slowing me down, the car doesnt pull like a 3.5 should, even with TC off.

My 03' SE Auto has 68K on it's original transmission. I go to a place called "Transmedic", every 15K miles. They do a fluid / filter / gasket change for $69. It's not a flush either. That does not get everything out. Just had it done last week. There was no debris on the pan magnets. No sign of wear & tear.

Just service it and drive the car w/ respect. Beating on it is everyone's option, but it costs, and that's common sense. Enjoy it however you decide to drive it...

Unfortunately the car won't move without fluid in it. Your best bet to kill it, would be to bypass the trans cooler temporarily and run the car in drive at the stall point untill the converter fries. Then, tow it to Nissan and if they try to put just a converter in it, ***** up a storm and insist that the tranny is also bad. The technician will want to do a whole tranny anyways, so if the converter doesn't fix it he won't have to do the job over. Good luck.

is it such a good idea to discuss how to illegally get a dealer to replace a part due to forceful destruction which is technically fraud and post it in a public forum?

heh my tranny is going too but i will have to pay for it

Hey I got a question, my max is at 90000 miles and my warranty goes at 100K, I was wondering if I should neutral drop my tranny and kill it or would the dealership know that i did that and not replace it under warranty

What you guys think?

My ex did this in my old camry by accident. She went from D to R at 65mph while I was driving. The car jerked twice hard throwing me forward, the car died and every single light on the dash lit up. I pulled the car off the highway turned it off put the shifter into P waited a sec turned the key and it fired right up. Said quietly to myself "here we go" moved the shift lever from P to D and took my foot off the brakes. The car started rolling forward. It was TOTALLY fine and never gave me a problem for the next 15k miles I had the car

So it doesn't heat up the tranny? News to me. When you use the foot brake as a trans brake it does overheat the tranny. This I know for a FACT, unless my trans temp guage malfunctions only when I foot brake it!!!

serious? that's a suprise.. I wonder what acutally happens then when you do that then.. ? I guess it makes sense that the computer wouldn't let the gears change at speeds like that - since it would just destroy itself...

Also, Nissan says that when on a hill, you shouldn't use the engine to keep the car in a neutral position as it will overheat the transmission.. Any more details on how this DOESNT hurt the car?

Yeah, I guess some people think needlessly spinning the torque converter just circulates the fluid and cools the tranny
