NEED HELP ASAP: muffler question

My oem muffler has a crack in it and needs to be replaced fast. I am not buying another oem muffler instead I want to get something nice that will give me more hp. What do you guys suggest and where can I get it?

I would preffer to get something that looks stock.

thanks guys

Chris

the stock muffler flows very well and replacing it with a completely free flow would only increase sound. even with other exhaust mods, you would be lucky to see 1-2hp.

if you really have your eyes dead set on an aftermarket unit...then frankencar is the way to go....everything else DO NOT look like stock...they usually have huge tips, which effectively eliminates the sleeper status you are looking for (I'm assuming?)

frankencar FTW!

Good luck getting one.

I am thinking about going with a custom MagnaFlow muffler. You can pick out almost anything you want and just have it custom installed.

PS- go to Ebay to buy the actual muffler, They go for less than $200.

magna flows sounds pretty nice from what i've experienced..

but the magnaflow has a 2.5" inlet.. i donno if our maxima has the same issue.. but my friends who have sc300's had to do custom pipping to get it in and stuff..

Most aftermarket b-pipes for our cars are 2.5" internal diameter, so as long as you can find a shop that can put on a 2.5" inlet pipe, you'll be fine.

My Cattmang "Fart Can" doesnt really look suspicious. It's still sleeper because the car doesn't look like its loud, but it is actually really loud. If you ask me, my rear lip looks more suspicious than my muffler tips.

frankencar

So do you have the frankencar product or are you just endorsing? If you have it install, can you tell me how you like the sound (good or bad). I plan to purchase something between today and tomorrow.

Midas put this BS muffler on my car and I want it off. They will refund my $$$ if I find another muffler to install.

thanks gents

I would say hit up a midas flowmaster rear section. I think it sounds great see rykat muffler in the exhaust thread. I also think as long as you dont have headers frankencar or cattman is a good choice quality product and not to loud with a y pipe and headers though it gets ridiculous. Just my .02 cents. If all those arent appealing then go stock one of the best stock mufflers I have seen. In all reality there is little to gain hp muffler wise over stock. You need to go the ypipe or headers route if that is what you are looking for.

*Edit I ment to add b pipe in there as well for power gains. Also remember Rykat had a resonator delete to get that great sound. Which midas does by the way since you referenced them. PM him about the details.

bpipe installed

Ok boys heres the latest!

So I called a few local dealerships for pricing on the stock muffler and this is what I got:
1. Conicelli Nissan wants $408.48
2. Ardmore Nissan wants $438.50
3. Chapman Nissan wants $292.00
4. Nissan Parts Store (http://www.nissanpartstore.com/) wants $148.62 (that's with next day shipping)

BTW, I just order it from nissan parts store which ships direct from NJ. The dealerships sucks azz!!

For the stock muffler, another option would be to look for a used 00-03 stock muffler in the 5th Gen Classifieds forum. You can also look out for one in local junkyards or try www.car-part.com.

I know it's a little late to suggest but I would have went with a stainless exhaust so you never have to worry about it again.
