Hi All,

It's been one heck of a week... I see my Max is leaking its manual transmission fluid like there is no tomorrow, and when I was under the car checking on that, I noticed a a black ground wire, bolted to the bottom of the chassis, which is severed... I am trying to get help in identifying this... The bolt location is approximatey a foot from the drivers side door. Does anyone have an idea of what this wire is for? I havent found its connecting point yet. Doesnt seem to be causing any problems, but I need to fix it. Thanks in advance for the help!

 

Transmission ground, it is bolted behind the splash guard which is behind the strut assembly if you were facing the driver front wheel.

 

Thanks for the fast reply n3985! Since this is a manual transmission, I wonder what the ramifications are of it being seperated. I was planning on dropping it off at Nissan tomorrow so they can take a look at that transmission leak anyhow. Thanks again for the fast response!

use the alternate hypergrounding point
connect it and see if that fixes ur leaking problem
then report back here with results

 

Well I got the results from Nissan yesterday, and it wasnt as bad as I thought. It sure looks like the leak is coming from the manual transmission bolt-point(s), however, they said that the problem is a damaged axle seal. They said it is pretty uncommon. Parts and labor will be about $250.

Regarding the ground wire, they said that it is connected (or supposed to be) to the catalytic converter. They receommend not doing antyhing with the broken wire at this point, unless there are starting problems, because there could be a risk of damage to the converter. The car has a total of 3 grounding points, and loosing one should not cause any porblems according to them. Hope this helps!
