GAB CAI in the making... come inside.(pics)
It just so happens that Nissan might have had something in mind when they were designing the air intake ducting for the 5.5 gen airbox.
Comments and criticism welcome...
Go creative tonight. I searched all of the threads and found nothing on this so I'll let the pictures do the talking. By the way, the opening is 3"
Cut off the end of a MAF sensor housing. Notice screen still intact
Then I removed the air intake ducting and cut off the bottom of the 3" round baffle at the bottom.

I then took the custom adapter plate with screen intact and connected to the cutout.
I used duct tape until I get a black rubber coupling from the parts store. Reinstalled intake ducting and...
My plan is to connect 3" black RV sewer or vacuum hose to this opening, then connect the adapter plate to the end of that and position under car away from unwanted engine heat and block from unwanted water.
Should I be concerned about water the way it is set up now???
GAB CAI mod FTW!
Here is the other mod I did with the rest of the MAF housing a few weeks ago...
Got rid of the mid-pipe triangulated baffling.

interesting......with it up that high, water shouldn't be a concern, as long as you have lower splash guards in place. Hope you didn't damage your MAF while sawing off the end...you know how sensitive and wimpy those things are@!

I replaced the MAF sensor and housing a while ago with a new 5th gen MAF and swapped out the IAT sensor. I had that housing leftover. Did all the mods/cuts off the car.

Update...
First impressions of my GCAI (ingenius name )
Drove the car for a little bit last night then this morning to work (approx. 50 min drive). I feel no low end torque loss at all. There is little to no increase in intake sound. Engine "appears" to run smoother throughout the entire powerband to redline and take off from a stop actually "felt" stronger.
Must be a placebo effect.
Going to look for intake piping today and figure out where to route it for maximum air flow and minimum heat/water issues.
