Got into a little accident

Yeah today was not a very good day for me. Here's the story...I was going straight when a car comes right out of a parking lot and hits my rear passenger side. Thank goodness he didn't smash my rear quarter panel body, but he did hit the rear, side bumper and bumped the wheel a bit. Worst part of all, the driver, a ricer in a modded honda civic, didn't have insurance and a drivers license which was suspended for speeding. But anyway, a couple of police officers appeared at the scene 30 seconds later and took the guy in the cop car and we drove to the local police station.

Now as I'm driving the car will go in a straight line but the steering wheel is slightly turned to the right. I guess it was because the rear right wheel was hit. Has anyone experienced problems like this and can give me any advice? BTW, I have Statefarm full coverage and hope I'll be taken good care of.

Hope they don't screw you and raise your rates since he didn't have any insurance.

uninsured motorist coverage would have covered it, but you would never expect someone to drive a car on the street with no insurance.

unless ur tie rods were a lil loose, and u held the wheel while the front wheels turned, it could be from that.
a little toe adjustment will fix that.
but if ur rear right wheel is slanted, ur wheel is crooked to adjust to go straight

If you got hit in the rear and the steering wheel is off now, you bent the rear beam. Make sure the insurance adjuster figures in the cost of this part. New ones run about 500$. 9 times out of 10 they will replace it with a used one though. Good luck, and sorry about your car.

somebody side swiped me in the front passenger side too .. but state farm is great ~! they came out and gave me a realistic appraisal. even the auto body shop said it was a surprising appraisal. and the check came 2 days after the appraisal. no hassles what so ever with state farm

Thanks everyone...the insurance will be taking care of me. BTW, I noticed that the toe angle is a bit off and the rear wheel is a bit tilted to the right.

a ricer is one who rices up his car.

re: the insurance - the government has a fund which can be drawn upon if someone in an accident has no insurance. It's just a matter of subrogation - let statefarm deal with that. Their legally obliged to cover you.

If he has uninsured motorist coverage, HIS insurance will reinbures him and then sue the civic driver for subrogation.

Since the rears are solid axle, you probably bent one of the rails or your strut. If it's the strut thats not a lot of money. If its one of the structural rails on the rear axle, that can be a lot.

How old was this guy? If he's a minor, just sue his parents.

Shouldn't be a prob. As it turns out, I had a similar conversation with my SF agent last week regarding uninsured drivers. You should have UD coverage now, although your deductible may be higher in a case like this. If he is underage, his parent's policy may cover it, although that is gray area and may be incorrect.

If you do not have this coverage, your rates should not increase if you were not at fault. However, if you have a pattern of speeding, other claims, and so on, there may be a rate hike, probably less than 10%. Overall, I really wouldn't worry about it and get it fixed through SF. Their agents have been good to me so far.
