power seat stopped working

i noticed it first when i got in, started the car, and the seat didnt move into position. i shut it off, turned it on again, nothing. the right side slides about a half inch, and then stops. the left side doesnt move at all, like its snagged on something. i reached under there, nothing stuck or anything that i could feel. i gotta call nissan tomorrow, at least the seat isnt too close. at least i got a warranty, i just didnt want to have to bring the car to the dealer AGAIN.

the weird thing is, just before i noticed it didnt move, my Viper remote shut itself off or something and rebooted...weird and coincidental.

Sometimes I have the same problem. Every couple of months, my driver's side seat won't move forward or backwards. I let it sit overnight, start the car in the morning and then it works fine for several months. I would like to find out whats wrong also.

i was hoping that would work, but no. I think i am going to remove the fuse that controls them and reinsert it, hopefully that will do something, but im not optimistic about it. I cant get a loaner car at nissan til 9/12.

The brushes in the motors get dirty and stop making good contact. You can remove them (taking the seat out) and clean the brushes w/sandpaper. My inlaws have a Pathfinder that was doing the same thing. I did this and it works perfect now. To get it working temporarily try whacking the motor with a hammer while on the car, 9 times out of 10 it will start working again. BTW: the dealer is going to replace the whole 900$ adjuster assy.

i could try that, thanks, but its more or less worth my $50 deductible to just have them replace it under warranty, since im not really in the best position and location to do work myself.

at least its back and i can still drive comfortably, if it was too far forward id be smacking the hell out of it.

This is a known issue for this gen Maxima/I30/I35. Basically your motor is going and needs to be replaced. There is a TSB out on this that walks you through taking the seat out and replacing the motor.

I have this same problem and have gotten to the point where the seat does not work at all anymore.

check the wiring harness for cracks and shorts. I had the same thing on my, wiring harness was rubbing against metal fram of the seat, would short out without blowing the fuse.. YOu will have to take seat off, since you can see it from under when the seat is attached
