Valve body, $900 to fix, are they ripping me off?

hey guys,
my 00 maxima is sitting in the shop right now, i have to let guys know by 2morrow if they'll work on it or not. They told me that my valve body on transmission is f***ed up, and it needs to be replaced....and their estimate is $900 bucks........and they'll only give warrant on the part...i understand that, but 900 bucks for this valve body, would i be better getting my whole tranny rebuilt cause' i would get 1yr warranty on it....but anyways, wut do u guys think bout this, how much is this ? is it hard to replace? and those daveb have it? i'll call him 2morrow, but i need info asap......
please let me know.....thx a lot orgers

Can't you get places to do the VB mod for $799 that will ship you the VB and let you ship back your core once you get the new on installed. Of course, this is if you want the VB mod. I'm also not sure what state the one you send them needs to be in. I would find out before doing it because I think you have to put a $1000 deposit down that you get back once the get your VB and if it's not what they're expecting then you might get screwed.

This is one place that does it. There are more. http://www.levelten.com/

$900 at the dealer is exactly what I (would've) paid back in January... Had a 30 day warranty that was 50/50 for prices, parts, and labor, so it was only $450 at the dealer. Man, that sucked...

You are about to get ripped off buddy.. if you want a stock vb. then i'd just go to Car-parts.com and pick one up. OR if you want to shift firmer and save your tranny and have a quicker car that is SAFE for your tranny... try Maximumtuning.net. They will do it for 400 bucks. If you take it there, 400 bucks, if you send it and get it back, 400 bucks. so they are good.

I compared them to Level 10, and level ten actually replaces the springs that pressurizes the valve body to switch gears, and they replace the springs with washers. Maximumtuning.net actually replaces the plate that has alot of slots and slits with a flat plat that actually allows more fluid to run through. More fluid, more pressure the harder and faster the shift, and in the end, its the same result with a longer life and safe on your tranny.

So give them a call.

It's not that easy to find once since the tranny is obsolete once it comes out. I thought the same thing, but it's not as easy as say an IM or MAF from there. I ended up just using maximum tuning.net since they have them readily available from customers that have sent theirs in.

Anyone have any info on how much faster the shifts will be with the Maximum Tuning VB upgrade. I have been looking at the SGP and Forge Internals VB upgrade for the 350Z's who claims .5 second faster shift time from 1-3. Sharif also mentioned tires chirping due to the faster shifts. I'm looking for a valve body upgrade with a very aggressive shifts. I need to know if Maximum Tuning VB upgrade is similar to SGP and Forge Internals or the Levelten less aggressive shifts

I'm also want to to have my VB upgraded after reading a threads in here. I'm gona try to have this done after I get the Cattman headers going.

I was at SGP for a dyno a month ago or so. The guy told me they could do the VB upgrade and a new torque converter. They done it on sevearl 350z and G35 before. Since my car has a VQ35 they can do it too. They claimed there were better than level10 VB mod. He gave me his card and said to call him if I wanted to know more about it.

After searching on the net about their VB mod, I found a thread in a G35 forums on how a guy had it done and liked it. He had a couple of vids on it.
I'm gona look for that thread again and post it here.

EDIT: My bad it was not a G35forum but a 350Z.
http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=31274
I'm sure there was a G35 forums talking about it too, gona keep looking.

Did he give you an idea on how much the whole package will run you? (VB Mod, Oil Cooler, and Torque Converter... installed?)

It chirps the tires if your tires are balding.

Thanks. Did a little searching, looks like on the 4th gen max they offer stage 1, 2, 2.5 and 3 VB upgrade. Did you get the stage 3? If not that may be the one I'm looking for. I called Maximum tuning last week but this info I was not made aware of. I did get a price qoute, $500 for VB mod, $100 dollars was added since I have a 5-speed automatic and $125 for a tranny cooler. Let me know if these prices are a bit off.

Thanks again,
Jerry

Does the VB raise the shift points? The 1-2 shift is so early IMHO.

I would like faster & firmer shifts, not tire chirping shifts.

I just noticed you have a stage II.5 listed on your sig. Can anyone who has a Maximum Tuning stage III VB mod care to comment on how much faster/harder the shifts are over the stage II.5.

Well, that's bad news then I was hoping to save $300+ on the VB mod but I guess I have no choice now but to get the Forge Performance VB upgrade. One thing I don't understand is why would anyone want harsher shifts if it doesn't result in faster shifting. I always thought that the faster shifting is the reason for the VB upgrade, I must be missing something here. What exactly do you gain in terms of performance when having the harshest shifts like the stage 3?

How do you like the stage II.5? Would stage 3 be unbearable in daily driving?

Thats what I figured, since I'm looking for better performance, some convenience must be sacrificed. Thanks, you've been a great help.
