I found one for as low as 30$, Heaven knows how th fitment would have been but...just throwing that out there.

Most people aren't, for that matter.Anyone can make a true CAI using PVC....it's all about routing it to the cold air...

So Irish, if I wedge the air filter between the exhaust manifold and block it will sheild it from the heat in the engine bay, right?

Ok, kinda O/T but put on a Y-pipe last week and feels like I lost bottem end power. Dabbled in a$$hattery, and removed a 2 foot section of my WAI, now it's a short ram intake. It feels like I gained back some of the lost power. does this seem normal, or was it the 2 beers making me think I gained power?

I dont think I could or would drive through enough water to hydrolock the motor. Its just below the battery, and thats plenty high IMO.

anyone have experience w/ the cosmo cai? it looks pretty nice, im diggin the price, just wondering about how it sounds and performance gains. Also, ive read that sometimes there are MAF or o2 sensor problems with aftermarket intakes? Is this only with cai's or are all intakes succeptable to this? ill be noobtastic if anyone can help me out.

Yeah, I use that one. Get the same kinda gains as any other 3" WARM (that's for irish) AIR INTAKE. I ended up removing the piece that drops the filter down in front of the radiator. It's now more of a short ram intake. For the minimum gains you'll get, it's just fine.

I personally don’t care whether it’s called a CAI or WAI or anything else as long as it makes my car sound good and makes a little more power at the upper end, which the Berk unit does just fine.
I prefer the simpler easy-on easy-off design of a WAI set-up (or whatever you want to call it) in lieu of cutting holes into my car for what I perceive to be minimal gain of CAI over the WAI. I’m also personally not comfortable with most CAI designs regarding potential water ingestion and rod breakage, the claims above notwithstanding. It doesn’t take much water ingestion to ruin an engine. I acknowledge that as long as you operate your car with half a brain you can avoid most of that risk, it’s just that I’m at a point in my life where I want fewer such things to worry about, not more.

Has anyone else ever had the crazy thought of taking out the fog lights and turning those holes into dual intakes?
Granted you will need to make sure its screened and filtered to protect against splash, stones, bees and such.
I don't even want to think about the piping involved....

It would be an ugly massive waste.
Way to much piping and almost no real gains from an intake alone on a Maxima.

That's cool - nobody is saying the WAI isn't worthwhile too (hell, I used to have a Frankencar). Just making the distinction, since a CAI gives different kinds of power gains (throughout the power band) vs. the WAI, which gives more gains up high but may lose power down low.
I completely hear you on the "worry about water" part - When it rains I get a bit paranoid, though i think it is without any real basis, and on the drilling through the fender is not for everyone (especially if you don't have the right tools to do it).

Injen Intakes SUCK!!!! I had one installed and was pointing fingers at other issues for power loss. I just removed mine and put in a short arm similar to Frankencar/Berk. Let me tell you how my car is 10 times more responsive then before. I am leaving my setup as is now....
No exageration, with the VB mod I was unable to chirp second. Now I'm almost spinning through out first and chirpping nicely when I gone it. A lot more responsive. I highly recommend to anyone with this setup that you remove it.

Someone also mentioned if someone had ever ran a tube from the fog light...
The idea is very old, takes me back to the days of my first Mustang, lol. Basically a dryer hose and some ingenuity, it just creates a ram effect, which in a way you might gain something you might not.
A intake is not a huge mod but one that is good to add to the stack and will benefit from other mods.
