H3 Reverse Mod?

I've heard/seen somethings about this... One being Dr. Roy's LED taillights. I tried PMing him, but I couldn't get through. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do this? It seems helpful as I do backup in the dark a lot, and as long as it is somewhat simple, I'm game. Anyone?

Well, I have super whites in them right now. Heat wouldn't be too much of a concern considering how long you actually turn them on.

I have done the H3 mod, but was only able to get one side...i broke three H3's trying to do the other side so I quit. I'll see if I can get you some pics...heat is definitely not a problem.

Awesome, except about the breaking 3 h3s part. How exactly do you do it? Is it a lot of work/wiring to do? Thanks!

I have the mod...what a difference it makes. It lights up the whole block. Cheapest and best mod I have done to date.

It's fairly simple. Just find an H3 bulb -- any cheap H3 bulb will do. Debase it and install it. It's fairly simple -- just be careful not to break the bulb and that's it. Oh, and work with a pair of thin see-thru plastic gloves so that you don't get oils on the bulb glass.

I was definately thinking about doing this as well but I've read sometime back on there forums that ppl have had problems with the bulbs shorting out something and it being a pain in the a$$ to fix.
That scared me away from doing it, but I still have the h3 bulbs lying around and definately want the extra light. So I was wondering how common is the problem with the bulbs shorting out?
And who actually had this problem vs ppl saying they are different watt or volts and saying that you will have problems.
Sorry I don't really know the right terms but I hope you get the point

If I use blue opaque mechanics rubber gloves instead of thin see-thru plastic gloves will I get oils on the bulb glass?

No problems here. Just the wire loosens once in a while.

I have something a little bit different than the H3 reverse light mod. I actually have one H3 on the right for extra light and the other light is a rear facing fog that lights up red which I only use in heavy rain, snow or foggy conditions of course. I bet no one else has this mod.

Ok, i have a few of these, but didn't exactly catch the whole thing. I'm slow, I get it. Debasing means taking the metal part off right after the bulb?

No, it means taking ALL of the metal off the bulb.

ok...I promised I'd post these a while ago. I just took these so let me know what you think you'll be able to tell which is the H3. I have lamin-x tint on my tails so the H3s were a nice upgrade. I broke two H3's trying to the other one so I gave up I'll probably take care of it soon.

after breaking several h3s attempting this mod i got fed up and headed to the walmart/target/meijer and picked up a set of t3 style bulbs theyre 50watt and 12v and pop right in, no need to debase or spice or bend anything. and theyre about 3 bucks apiece.

imo its just easier than the h3s and as far as i can tell thyre just as bright.

ge makes them as well as a company called feit electric. its says theyre replcements for a gy6.35 desk lamp.

dont wanna hate on anyone attempting the h3 mod i just thought id share.

Hmm, let us know how those hold up over time.

why would u think they would not hold up as well? vibration, since theyre made for desk lamps not automotive? worthwhile argument. they "appear" just as strong as a debased h3 and with my experince fit into the socket better, so by that wouldnt they be held in better and be more secure?

time will tell if theyre work alright, if not then i wasted 6bucks and a bit of time. that and u can say i told u so. ill keep ya posted
