manual-manual swap-easy?

I've been reading some stuff on the auto to 6 speed swaps, I know their a lot of work and i searched too but couldnt find much, i know a lot of guys say its better to just trade the car in instead of going through the hassle. What about if i already have a manual, what would I need and how different is the workload? My buddy, whos in automotive tech, has a 97 GXE auto and I have an 01 SE 5 speed. This summer we were thinking of putting a 6 speed into my car and putting my trans. onto his. I know the second one is a lot more complicated but he doesnt care. With my car, I know i wont need a new console or anything right? Just the shifter itself, linkage, probly new axles, and what else? I dont need an ECU right? Oh and a clutch too i'm guessing, since mine has 93,000 miles on it. Alright thanks for any input.
