quick question... about headers...

on a 01 we have a pre cat on the front header... would it be smart... to change that header to the an 00 fed spec header... or its just not even worth that much trouble for that tiny pony...

it has been done and proven not to be worth it. this was of course pre-header days. i would suggest a ypipe for a nice gain and easy install but would still leave 1 precat in tact. that or go with headers and replace the exhaust manifolds so you have no precats then an afc to tune the richness typically caused by the headers.

Most likely not, but you'll never know unless you get a dyno with AF reading or use a wideband.

And to add to Sloppy's point, look for Desert Pearl's thread in the Stickies and you'll see his dyno results before and after his FED spec conversion. IIRC he only gained about 4 whp from the conversion over just a y-pipe.

The flow restrictions are in the design of the stock headers, not the pre-cats. If you're gonna replace your exhaust manifolds, get some equal length headers like Cattman or Hotshot.

+1 to what joel said. my a/f was just about dead on 13:1 with my old cattman y pipe. the headers richened it up quite a bit.

jus a quik question to anyone that has an aftermarket header system... how can u physically compare both the stock front header and the aftermarket one... im talking about not appearance but more like the length of it how close to stock header does the aftermarket header look like... ex: meowman headers the 3 to 1 collecter is longer than the stock one... suttin like that type of comparison...

the reason im doin this is... spending close to 900 bucks for the system and then the installation... im running up close to 2 grand i figure the front header is easier much easier by far than the rear and from my understanding the rear header doesn't have a precat and the front does.... just as puppet mentioned about desertpearl and how he gained 4 horses... that better achieved than none... thanx for the help
