serious 5-speed transmission slippage

I just bought a 2000 maxima SE with 119k and a new clutch was recently installed. On the test drive their wasn't much traffic just mainly 45mph driving. It drove fine. I live about an hour away and on the way home once we hit stop and go traffic, it felt like it was slipping, but I thought maybe it was just a weaker clutch than what I expected. It eventually came to the point where in any gear, if i would give any gas, it would rev up instantly, and barely move. I pulled over, called the seller and ended up getting my money back later. I am just curious as to what happened as I was excited to be upgrading from my 95 GXE. This maxima's seats were awesome they were like suede or something and really supportive.

either installed pressure plate incorrect or put too much grease in there, and some grease got onto mating surface..

+1
and you can bet that to fix it, it'll require pulling the tranny back out of there again. You made the right move in returning it.
