Ok, so saturday night im taking a cruise with some of my friends out on the highway, when we get to our final destination, I go to put the car in reverse, the she shifter jumps back over to where 4th is. I try again thinking that I didn't do it properly, and it jumps back over to 4th. I try to goto 5th, and it's like something is blocking the shifter from going 5th. But when I pull the release up that's normally used for going to reverse, it goes to 5th, but when I let it go it goes to 3rd gear. I don't know what the hell is going on with my gearbox, got any ideas? One person told me it could be the linkage, another person said it could be the syncro's or the lines. I don't think the gears are destroyed, because i've seen numerous cars when the gears are destroyed, it wouldn't even let you get into the gear at all. It's like the gears are missing actually. Anyone got any ideas, or heard anything of this happening? Thanks.

never heard of it but i will take a stab at it. if your linkage line has creeped, you may be off line with the gear selector. I am not too familiar with cable linkage but i would say that the cable is the most likely problem. otherwise i would look a tthe shift cylinder (?) in the trans. im not even sure if you have one but if you do, the follower could have jumped the track. you got me swining here but theres a bit to boggle in the old noggan.
