so yea a couple of questions.

1. Are the axles for HLSD and non-HLSD the same?

2. Anyone know where I would be able to purchase a brand new HLSD unit? Can't find one anywhere besides the stealership and in that case it would most likely be more cost effective to buy an entirely new transmission for another 600 dollars.

 

For the 02/03 cars the axles are the same.

Try Dave B. for a price on the HLSD unit.

Used 04 trannys with HLSD can be found for a reasonable price and have better syncros. The gearing is a little lower but not by much. They are a direct swap.

It is possible but I don't know much about the LSD on the 5th gen.

 

AFAIK, the only OEM option is the VLSD that the AEs and I30s have. Call Dave B for pricing.

 

I believe the Canadian 5th gens have VLSD as well. Not sure if all of them have it or not, but I know Progress has a Canadian SE and he has the VLSD.

 

Most, if not all, the stick shift cars sent to Canada had some form of LSD.
