My Max is no more.....

This happened around 12am Saturday. I was on the highway heading home while a Ford Explorer was merging on to the highway, he was going too fast and lost control (it was raining) and turned left straight towards my direction. He hit front end and my car spun and it hit the rightside. At the time both of my eyes got injuried due to the airbags. I was pretty lucky that I didn't get anything else. The maxima is a pretty safe car.

This really sucks, cause I just finished a HID retrofit. I loved that car.
Now I need another car.

Sorry for your loss, glad you were not injured more than that, can I know why the airbags injured your eyes most of the times it is more broken nose or injuries to the chin, do you wear glasses, all in all the max seems indeed safe if you had only minor injuries comapred to the state of the car

Hmmmmm I wonder if i should wear my eyelenses when driving and not my glasses as I usually do, I suppose the airbag kinda try to merge you glasses with your eyes , at least it kept your brain safe

Sorry to hear about your car but glad to hear you are safe.

Sounds like a perfect excuse to upgrade to a 5.5 gen 6spd ...a perfect candidate for the Cattmobile (see the bottom of the first post) http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=498234 or Deckdout2's car http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=496497

Not affiliated with either car or owner...just partial to 5.5 gen 6spds!

Good luck!

Out of curiosity, the Maxima gets a Poor crash rating for the leg area...any idea why?

Well, I took a look at some cars at the dealership. Found a dark blue 03 max auto with 57,000 miles on it, but they wanted $21,000 for it. So no go there.
At another dealership, there was an dark gray 01 auto with about 80k miles for $12k. Most of these car have some blemishes that I don't like.
I really want another white one, but theres none that I like.

I am also taking to a lawyer about this, depends on how that goes, I'll keep the amount that I'm willing to spend at around 12k-15k. If I can get some money I might get a 6th gem Max. But we'll see then.

About the prices, 21k seems really a lot for an 03 max with 57k, I just bought a 03 6spd SE TE with leather and 57K for 17K$cdn (+-16.3KUS$) and the car is in very good condition for a canadian winter driven car. Hope you find your new white max

Well just found a silver 2k2 auto se for $13,000 with about 57,000 miles. And also found a silver 2k3 auto se for $11,500 with about 78,000 miles.
I want the 2k3 one but it has that stupid front license plate bracket.

This is why I hate my patients...

Let me guess, you also have medicine in your lenses...

BTW, contacts typically are worse for driving than eyeglasses. Especially if your glasses have an Anti-Reflective coating.

Damn, another one bites the dust. Like the others have said, it's important to remember about the importance of your well-being. Your 2000 looked really clean and well-maintained though. Best of luck to you with your next purchase.

I'm sorry to hear/read about/see photos of your accident. I saw the pictures and got sad on the inside. But from looking at the damage and hearing about the injuries, I'm happy to hear that the Maximas are safe. Makes me feel a bit better inside.

I love my Max - it's a white one like yours and she's a 5-speed, a 2000 Maxima SE. She's so easy to drive, too. You can learn to drive a manual! I'm up in the USF area...

[edit: I read where you had the accident - I am always super careful in that area...some people just don't know how to drive, especially in the rain]

Good luck on finding another one!

That sucks but glad to hear you're still in the game. And honestly, go rent a manual transmission and teach yourself. It's well worth it. I don't think you can truly appreciate a max until you get behind a 5/6spd max.

Anyhow, any chance you can pull those black tail lights off of it? If so I'm interested in buying them off of you. If so, PM me
