Thinking about doing a 3.5 swap...

Hey guys, I know that the "noob" is probably gonna get busted on for starting this thread but I want to do a 3.5 swap in my car. I have a 01 I30 but there is nothing in the I30 threads about it. Iwas just wondering if anybody in here has done it and what problems you ran in to and also what all is included in the swap. Also about the total cost of everything after it's all said and done. Or if you guys even think it's worth it. My 3.0 Right now has 125K on it and I know that's not much for these cars. I had a 4th gen before this and I couldn't kill it so I'm sure this motor has a lot left in it. What ya think?????? any input would help. Thanks guys!!

Really? I'm finding the 3.5s on ebay with 20 and 30 K on them for 500-700 dollars. Is there just a lot of extra crap that i would drop money in?

you'd lose a lot more money trading your car in for a 3.5 than it would be to swap one in, so idk where he got that from. look here:

not 'bolt-on' per-se...you have to retain the 3.0 timing equipment, unless you want to basically re-wire your entire car to keep the 3.5 ECU...

huh? lol, yeah that's a good thing to do while swapping in the 3.5, but it really has nothing to do with timing

Also, I think that with the 5th gen 3.5 swap you dont have to solder the injector clips, but don't quote me on that..

That was chris'smax...he lives here in baton rouge, and the 3.5 swap went fine. He actually sold the max N/A and got an '06 350z..His car is still with us, because he sold it to one of the .org member's brothers.

This is something I am going to do eventualy. The first transplant I want to do is the tranny. I think you might be pleasantly suprised with the capabilities with the 3.0 when its paired with a 5 speed. I figure, I might as well get some use of this engine. It has 89,000 on it and doesnt burn or leak a drop of oil. These really are fantastic motors. I think I'm going to take advantage of the one I got first, then when it's time, swap out to the 3.5.

that is a SICK thread...lots of info in there!

(I think this is what LA02MAX was reffering to)

I wish I had just started off modding a 5.5 instead of my 5.0

Yep, I figured he would find it, considering it's a sticky at the top of the all motor forum

Very good read, and many people will learn a lot by reading the stickies in the AM forum
