Nature Strikes!

So I'm out at my friends house hanging out, and its windy as hell outside. My car is parked out on the side of the street in a line of about 6 other cars. So anyway I'm there for about 2 hours maybe 3, then I decide to head home. I go up to the car, hop in, shut the door and realize something is different about it. When I look behind me I notice the ENTIRE back window is busted in and all over the back seat. First thing that popped into my head was that someone broke my back window, or maybe rear ended me severely. When I inspect it further I notice a 3 foot or so branch, a solid, hefty piece with a sharp end laying on my seat. So yeah... First major problem with my car , Anyone know how much a fix should cost me, or maybe how long it should take?

Depends on your comprehensive deductible. Hopefully it's not high. Is the fabric on the seat damaged? If your lucky then just the window is broken and there is no damage to the body/paint.

^ Take a vacuum to it... I remember having the driver's side window for the rear seat broken out in my Camry and the window repair company simply pushed the window in and left small pieces of glass in my seat and on my floor.

FYI you are going to find glass in your car for the next year or two. I vacuumed my car after this happened to me and I found glass in it two years later. Do the best you can.

Oh yeah inspect all around the edge of the window to make sure you dont have any damaged to where teh window will sit because if you do you may develop a leak down the road.

Are you sure that is the COMPREHENSIVE deductible and not the COLLISION deductible?

Comprehensive covers busted windows, vandalism, etc. The difference between a $500 deductible and a $0 deductible on my policy is about $15 year.

Comprehensive claim won't jack your insurance rates unless you have repeat claims.

yah, with my insurance its 1000 for both collision and comp, the money isn't the biggest problem. I guess the homeowners insurance of the owner of the lot where the tree was hanging over my car could be held responsible. I don't think the effort and time is really worth the 200 it's going to cost to repair it. My main concern is cleanup.

too bad you're not in MA or RI (i work for AAA glass ) but check with your insurance forst to see if they cover it, back glass on a max i think is about 200 or so. can't remember off the top of my head. with our technician's, we vacuum all the glass we can find for our customer so they don't have to worry about that.
see what warranty they offer, ask them what kinda glass they will be replacing it with (manufacturer), if they prime the glass before installing, etc
