I would run this application next time as half mtl half mt90. Our trannys take about 2.3-2.5 l of fluid. Just get yourself 3 bottles. Actually because we get sub zero temps more mtl than mt-90 would make it shift better as per redline tech.

You cannot run GL5 as i said. You will wear out your synchros. Those additives attack brass and soft material synchros. I would not buy a gear lube that is ok for all GLs. It does not make sense. Think about it! gl5 =gl4 with 10 times the additives so how can it be both or ok for both.
You are correct on the second issue. However dealers like it when you do the maintenence there. Think about it. You go to chain shops for your brakes fluids etc. Besides how do we know what they use? (of course we can't assume they always **** up) You'll find that if you do work there they will be willing to help you a lot better. Better service history with records.
But i would just swap that fluid first and i'm sure you'll be happy. If not just go in january when the shop is slow and try going once, twice, perhaps a different dealer.... You get my point? Get second oppinions.
I almost was thinking about warranty tranny before redline but now it shifts fine. No reason to screw around with it if it's fine. Even if it was free you get my point?

Only seems to happen when the weather is cold. When I was living in Boston it happened more often, but now I am in Florida it doesn't happen very often except on chill mornings........It's not something I am concerned about

I'm a little curious. Nissan is willing to replace the transmission under warranty...but are the new transmissions that they're putting in any better? Is the 3rd gear synchro fixed? I'm contemplating a 6 speed swap and if i do I'd prefer not to have this problem

I only seem to notice the "crunch" when I am pushing the car. I.E. Downshifting without double-clutching to pass someone, during hard and fast acceleration when I shift into 3rd. I think that's the only time I feel it. Other than that, during normal driving, it falls right into gear when I shift on or near the shiftpoint.

I've had my transmission replaced at about 40k miles due to the 3rd gear crunch...I noticed it did it every time I was coming up to a toll both from 5th or 6th gear and attempting to shift into 3rd...no go. I have 117,200 now and I think that its starting to come back. I'm going to rebuild if it gets worse....

Started with it but gone now
I bought my 02 se 6spd with 18k miles in 04 on it and had it quite regularly whenever I would not get the clutch all the way in and try and do a quick shift. I moved my seat closer and made sure I had my clutch all the way in and took my time getting it into 3rd gear and as long as I do that I don't have the problem. It is interesting that the quick shift didn't seem to happen on any other gears though. BTW it has 109k on now and I need to sell because I use it for work and my company doesn't reimburse me adequetely beyond 100k. Anyone interested email me at greg.stagner@gmail.com

hey i e-mailed nissan about the bad syncro problems and i'm going to see if they have any suggestions. hopefully if enough people have problems they could recall it. it's a long shot but i can hope, especially since my car is out of warranty. oh i've got a question don't know if it has been answered already but would new shifter bushings help at all

according to Laomax no they would not help. If the culprit is notchy shifting then yes new bushings will help but for a synchro problem theres no way they would help. Post on here when Nissan gets back to you. I would love to see what they say.

Recalls are done when there are safety issues. You are talking about a campaign. Highly doubt it. Only way is to have warranty work done. They don;t throw money just like that replacing trannys.

Crunchy on Downshift
Mine crunches pretty consistently on downshift into third.I was actually googling for answers which led me to this forum. It just starting doing it consistently about 3 months ago. I'm at about 46K miles now.

I have a someone similiar issue...well tranny issue at that. My transmission been fine since i got it replaced at 58k, and today jus out of no where my car is stuck in 3rd gear with no chance in hell of coming out. I have not even driven it hard since it got installed, now i''m at 66k and this issue has arise'd. Goin to the dealer tomorrow since the extended my warranty to 72k Since it got reaplaced. Anyone ever had this issue??? Oh srry to but in but does anyone have a connect for flywheel and 6puck clutch?? Since umma replace the tranny i'm goin change the fly and clutch to go wit it.

54k miles on an '02 and I get the crunch (i'd call it more of a chatter) fairly frequently when upshifting to 3rd. Doesn't happen for any other gears and usually doesn't happen even in 3rd if downshifting. The entire clutch assembly (flywheel, pressure plate, etc) has been replaced for a different issue and this still occurs. If I pause for a second in neutral between 2nd and 3rd it won't happen either.

Ok I've got an 03 SE 6spd with 78000 KILOMETRES on it, I don't think my car has this problem. How would I know? Anyone have the abililty to explain it clearly? If it's there, I'm going to jump on the extended warranty while I've got the chance. Thanks.

i get that grind sometimes when the car is cold. it takes a little more effort to push the stick into gear, especially i dont press the clutch all the way in. embarrassed me a few times, but once operating temp is reached no problem.
i also find it hard to shift into gear when the engine is cold, nothing major.

Just picked up an 02 6 Speed and thought I was hearing/feeling a crunch. At first I just thought it was in my head, but I soon realized this was an occassional problem.
For me it seems to happen more when it's cold, and sometimes it'll grind no matter how long I take to shift.
My car currently has 43K on the odometer, and only came with a 2.5K extended warranty from the used car dealership. I've heard people talk about a 60K Powertrain Warranty. Do you know if this was transferable? I'm only the 2nd owner (3rd if you consider the dealership).
I want to know if I need to address this with the used car dealership, or if I have time to address it with Nissan later.
