I was thinking of buying a Greddy catback for my Maxima when I found out it was retailing for $650. Somebody I know can get it for $550 but that still is a little pricey for me. Is it cheaper to get a b pipe with an aftermarket muffler or to go with the GReddy? will either combination produce the same kind of power outputs?

I had a muffler shop custom make a 2.5" exaust from the cat-back and than they added a tsudo muffler(direct flow) with a 4.5" tip. It sounds great and it should be less restrictive than a hks or greddy system. Total cost was $200. Plus they did an excellent job which looks factory quality in every way. BTW I did race and beat a Integra Type R after I installed the exaust system. The car seems to pull to redline a little quicker.

Which muffler shops do you recommend? How long would I need to keep it in the shop in order for them to custom make it? Are these custom setups tough to make or are the big name brands like HKS and GReddy just ripping us off?

Almost any muffler shop can do this work and depending on how good they are, you can count on an hour to two hours for the work. And I can't imagine that a hks or greddy setup would be any better since my custom exaust is a straight flow design. I think the high prices are due to their mufflers since the rest of the exaust is just piping!

The GReddy cat-back is out already? Could you tell me where you found this information? Thanks in advance!

Well... I asked a co-worker to ask her boyfriend, who works in a performance shop, and he relayed the message back through her about the price. I will try to ask him directly on friday

i use to have a greddy and i didn't like it.
even though i got it for $490, i eventually
sold it. the muffler is high quality stainless
steal and it makes a nice low tone not like
one of those farty mufflers on an old accord.
as with most performance mods, there will be
a compromise. with the greddy, i lost low end.
but the high end is there. and i couldn't take
the cruising droning sound either. so if i
have to do it all over, i would just opt of the
ypipe. messing with the stock pipes will only hurt
low end. but if you want, just go with a custom
bpipe+universal free flow muffler and that won't
cost you $500.
