Engine removal???

I've searched hi and low but can't find anything regarding engine removal. I've got valve train issues and instead of cracking it apart to repair it I've found a 68,000mile engine I'd rather install. I'm not new to engine removal but looking for guidance on the MAX as I'm in a hurry and don't want to waste time removing stuff that I don't need to. I actually priced it out and a guy at a dealer quoted me $1,200. First off I generally do all my work for $$$ and attention to detail reasons but being that its been in the 30's here I was looking for the easy way out but $1200 is major BULL. Gonna do the SPEC stage1 while its out since the throw out bearings grinding crazy. Thanks guys.

Try posting in the all motor forum as well. I think you'll have better luck there.

$1200 dollars @ $85/hour dealership labor = roughly 14 hours.

Not all too bad considering you say its too cold to do yourself. Its not an easy task doing it yourself considering that:

1. you'll need equipment such as an engine hoist aka cherry picker to remove and suspend the engine out of the car
2. you'll need to remove the axles and transmission
3. drain coolant, motor oil, and tranny fluid (at least I do)
4. undo all wiring from the engine harness
5. undo all intake components, vacuum lines, etc

Then put everything back in reverse order.

NmexMax - Tapping from valve train. Smoking and compression issues. My stepson actually hydrolocked it up 2 weeks ago (Damn CAI) It ran fine for about 1500miles and now shes dying.

Larrio Motors - I have all the tools and hoist needed and axle/trans are no issue like I said I've done a few motors (Honda and Mitsu) in the past but each engine has its own special way about it and thats what I was looking for anyone who actually did this one themselves that could save me a minute or two. If not I'll figure it out and maybe do a step by step myself. Weather actually in the 50's this week so I may rip into it ASAP.

It's pretty straight forward if you've pulled engines before. I've two 4th gens and one 5th gen. The 5th gen is a bit more complicated (more sensors, lines, etc).

Just follow the ESM/FSM procedures for a basic outline. You can download it off www.phatg20.net

Phatg20 is what I was looking for. I know I can do it its just the first time on a max for me so I wanted to make sure there wasn't some flux capasitor dewhikey special gizmo needed. Thanks for the assist. I may be posting the complete engine in the classifieds once I confirm its just a valve bent. Up until now its been 100% reliable and strong, plus its an AE not sure if that adds any $$$. Thanks again!!!

You'll probably have a harder time finding somewhere to connect the engine hoist to.

There is a Nissan tool/bracket they sell that bolts up to the block for the engine hoist that you may see in the FSM. From personal experience, I wouldn't buy it.
