Car starter install/help

Hey guys, question here.

I just recently got a car starter installed on my 2000 Maxima, but i don't think it was installed right, or maybe something is just not connected. I had it installed by some guy off Montreal Racing for 330$ (2 way starter). Anywho, let me tell you the symtoms. I use the pager to start the car, get in, put the key in the ignition, press on the brake, and im ready to go off, but the dimmers in my car wont work (meaning my clock/radio wont go brighter when the headlights are off and dimmer when the headlights are on). That was 2 weeks ago roughly. Yesterday something shocking happened. I used the pager, to start the car, got into the car, and i decided to try something to see. I was able to put the car in drive, and drive around with the car without even using the KEY! Only thing that happened was the steering wheel locked when i did so.

Now i KNOW there's something wrong! Every other car I've ever owned or driven that's had a starter, i would get in, press the brake, and the car would shut down (without the key).

My best guess would be that the guy who installed the car starter didn't connect a wire to the brake lights so it would disable the car starter as soon as the brake is pushed, but then again, i really don't know and that's why im asking you guys.

Thanks
Joey

If he replaced the starter, there's nothing on the outside externally that would probably affect the problems you are having. On the outside of the starter, there's only a plug harness for power and ground. I'm thinking when he replaced the starter, he may have disconnected the battery at the same time. You may have to "reset" your alarm/remote start. Disconnecting the battery may have put the alarm in "valet" mode of some kind. If not, check all the wires inside the car for the remote start wiring. I'm thinking maybe the key module needs adjusting or maybe reprogrammed.
