Any interest in front door speaker spacers/adapters?

According to some info that I have read, the door speakers in the front of 00-03 Maximas are a lot like the ones in my Sentra- meaning that they have a 3 "wing" mounting surface. If this is true, then you MAY be seeing the same problem that I did- which is that you cannot get a speaker to mount right and seal well againt the door without some drilling.

To fix my problem, I designed speaker spacers for my Sentra. I made them 1" thick to add some mounting depth (mine in the Sentra is limited to 1.9" in the doors). The rings also allowed me to use a slightly oversized midbass driver without cutting the doors.

Anyway, I thought that I would see if people here on the org might be able to use rings like this as well.

I will post more info if there is any interest. Here is a pic of the ring that I made for the Sentra:

Mods- Please give me a run or so through the 5th gen forum. I know that it is an "audio" issue, but it only impacts 5th genners.

I don't think that you can. If you could, I would have done that rather than to spend a few hours making them. I bought what was SUPPOSED to be a speaker adapter, but they were very thin and did not have an opening large enough to accomodate my mids. The same company sells a "new" version that has more depth, but there is no way to seal them. You are basically attaching your speaker to a raised ABS ring. Without the ability to seal off the front wave from the rear, you will have very crappy sound.

I bought these:

From: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

They were well made, but did not do anything really to add depth, and they holes were too small to mount my mids.

If you know of other on there, please let me know.

Probably $30-35 shipped. These are not MDF or something that will warp or rot in water. They are formed PVC (think trex decking) and will be impervious to water, mold, mildew, etc.

I have a whole post about them on another board.

So is it worth it for me to make more sets, or are you guys happy with what is out there?

I think there would be a market for them. I'd buy some if I hadn't made some for myself a couple years ago. I used solid 3/4 inch wood and they look exactly like yours, but your PVC would be a better choice of material.

Quite a number of guys that have installed aftermarket door speakers have made their own (including myself). I'm sure these would be something that would attract a number of people. Only thing is that not everyone will be installing say, 6.5" speakers.

absoundlab - you can find everything on ebay, but wouldn't it be nice for MAXIMA enthusiast to be able to just pick them up from a trusted member of the .Org?

Its' cause he is a ricer and buys stuff from ebay thinking they are nice things but in reality they really aren't.

Also What size speakers do you run for these spacers? 6.5"?

I have made them on the Sentra boards for guys running 5.25" through 7" (though the 7" mids were TIGHT while allowing enough of a ring to be solid) mids and/or coaxials.

I make each set with the mounting diameter that is called for by the speaker specs, or whatever diameter the purchaser specifies. My 6.5"s needed 5 11/16" while another guy with 6.5"s needed 5" exactly. For smaller mids (say maybe ones from a past system in a car that did nto FIT 6.5"s), I just use a smaller cutout.

What absoundlab doesn't realize (if he's talking about the ones you listed) is that they don't have the "ears" which are required to actually be able to mount them in our cars.

...and hence the whole reason I made the set for personal use!

Some will never understand.

Please ignore the facts that
1. those are MDF while my speakers are not, and
2. those speakers lack the "wings" required to actually properly attach the rings to our doors.

Thank you.

Those look good. I was going to use MDF or particleboard, but I got a little worried about them molding or falling apart. 90% of the time it is not an issue, but with my luck I would be the one who gets water in their doors.

A year ago I was not considering upgrading my audio, so I had not even considered making these.

I'll tell you what...you have been here a long time- I'll make a set and send them to you to be my guinea pig. If they fit, you can paypal me the $$$ for them and post pics so that people see that they fit.

According to several websites, the sentra front doors and the 5th gen front doors use the exact same mounting ring. I KNOW that they fit the Sentra, but I just traded the 5th gen in or I'd check for myself.

PM me if you want to do this- I'll make the spacers to fit the cutout of whatever speakers that you have.

I can make them to fit any gen max. I custom-cut each set, so I can make them for whatever size/profile you need.

Do the rears use the same mounting ring? I thought that the rears did not need adapters in a 5th gen. I know that my Sentra does not.

My speakers are Alpine 6.5 SPR-17LS on the front doors.
I'm not quite sure what the length between the wings would be... I'm guessing you would need those measurements?

4th gens have a 3-wing, correct? Each wing is roughly triangular, right?

One set sold. Does anyone know if the REAR speakers on the non-Bose are the same shape as the fronts?

Also, do ALL Bose- 5th gens have 5.25s in the rear doors, or only the 5.5 gens?

By the way, prices are currently $35 for the PVC sets and $28 if you want for me to make them out of MDF. These prices include shipping.

Anyone who sends me a template or OEM speaker for any NEW design that I might be able to use will get a discount.

I sent ya a pm wondering if you still made the PVC spacers

They'd be for a set of rainbow SLC265 components for the front in a 5.5gen with Bose.

Let me know if you are then I'll be sending paypal your way.

Thank you!

I am down to my last set of full-width PVC spacers, though I can cut a few sets that have the edge of the "wings" cut off (see pic below):

As you can see, it does not affect mounting, but I wanted you to be aware of it.

If interested, send me another PM and I will reply with PayPal information.

A few people have used rings or adapters. I recommend MDF for the rear. Cheaper and no real chance of water problems.
