Wider tire that fits right on SE rims?

Well its tire time for me, my Eagle RSA's are toast. They break lose super easy under moderate acceleration and are scary in the rain.

My question is, is it possible to run a wider more low profile tire on these cars? Will it make the car look funny having different size tires on it??

My stock tire size it 225/50/17

Thanks Guys.

I upgraded to 17x8 and I'm pushing it running a 235 but yeah you could run a lower profile but no I would not try to go wider, try a better tread maybe, that's all I can think of
