yes, im an adult and you have proven that you are an immature child that has no regard for the law or other peoples lives. you will grow out of it. hopefully before you kill someone.
I do have a regard for the law, but when I sit here looking at this site, every other post is about modification, I laugh when I see someone who complains that they will have people who drive fast. I have been in 1 accident, was hit from behind by a bronco 2, one speeding ticket going 72 in a 50 in my civic (first car) and since then have not done anything. Immature, I would regret to say I pay for my own car, also have a full time job, while paying my own bills / cost of repairs / performance in one way or another. Also if you knew me in real life, aside from the simple disagreement we stand at you probably would not consider me to be too immature. I understand why the board does not condone street racing, I understand why it upsets you, I however find it funny you come in on a thread that is to its end, and start the flame. You however can't tell me you have never broken the law, and I hate when people are hypocrites in regards to laws, "oh well when I was 19 and drinking, that wasn't as bad", yes it was because you could have easily gotten in your car and killed someone. Everyone of us on this board has done something or another that could have killed someone.
so much BS cluttered this informative thread...I have 2 questions regarding the 3rd gear crunch:
- Is it prevalent in 02 models more than the 03s?
- Does it occur at low rpms/low speeds as well as higher rpm shifts into 3rd at high speeds?
Guess Im just trying to prepare myself for when my factory warranty finishes this July...no signs of 3rd gear problems yet (knocks on wood)

To answer your questions. The "crunch" is caused by a weak syncro. They didn't fix the design problen till 04. If you have it and it's covered under warranty you'll get a new tranny with updated syncros. If it's not covered your best bet, if you can't live with it, is to replace it with a new or used 04 tranny. You may as well get one with HLSD while you're at it.
On mine the crunch only happened at high RPMs with a fast shift. At low RPMs it was still more effort to get it into third. If I wound out 2nd gear and slammed it into 3rd it would crunch every time. With my used 04 tranny it shifts better at any RPM and won't crunch under any condition.
slvrmaxx it really depends on how you drive, as I stated in my first post, I was racing, I also did a burn out and attempted to shift into 2nd gear.. I also didn't know the previous owner so no clue what he did... but all depends on your driving habits..
I second Derrick. It was mostly when I hurried the shift from 2nd to 3rd. If I leisurely shifted, nothing would happen but maybe a notchy shift. I would also get it when I tried to shift from 6th to 3rd to pass a slow car on a two lane...after my first one sheit the bed, I started going from 6 to 5 to 3 or 6 to 4 to 3 with a little blip of the throttle to rev match on the way down. If I did that I wouldn't get the grind. I am looking for a new trans as we speak. Going with the 04 HLSD. I question what was stated eariler about the 04 correction and the replacement having the upgraded syncros...my trans was replaced by the dealer under factory warranty with 41k in Aug of 04 and when I left the dealer, I tried the hurried shift to see if the new trans had changed anything and it still crunched, so as far as the syncro issue being corrected...it wasn't with mine. A side note...the tranny's were on back order when mine was done the first time so I had to wait for it to come in...don't know if that has anything to do with it. Hope my 1st hand exp helps. I know Derrick's info and Merlyn have helped me with the info they've shared. Thanks guys!
