A horn quesiton.....

Hey guys, i was talking to my father about this and he said that swapping the horn out of our I35 into my 00 maxima would not work. Ive searched already but havnt found the information i need. He was saying that the current would be different and that it would blow something if it wasnt the same voltage(or did he say amperes?) Its one of those electrical terms. Should i be ok? What are the specs of the 2 horns. I was looking either into the i35(or i30 if it sounds the same as the i35), 350z, 02+ altima horns. Will any of these work? And which is the the high and the low horns located on the 00 max?

I was confused by what he said but it did make some sense. But i told him the i35 and the maxima 00 are basically the same car besides the engine and the body so how can the horn be any different? I just dont want to blow anything.

Hope you can help me out. I know the question may sound dumb but im out to prove him wrong!

Kind Regards,
kelvin

I've read that Hella Horns are quite popular for the MAX..

also you should be able to check voltage to verify that it works or to at least verify that its different between the 2..

you can always run a relay; then current doesn't matter

I got a 350Z horn on my ride, no problems so far and its been about 9 months since I put them on. All it really is, is just a power wire and it connected up just fine, no splicing wires or anything and sounds much better

Do a search. I posted about the "Fiamm Freeway Blasters" that I installed on my 2K3.

They are 130 db, cost about $31 and can be mounted where your horns are right now (1 on each side of the radiator for the earlier Maxes).

They are LOUDER than typical replacement horns and sound like a typical GM product. In fact, the casings are probably the exact same as those used in GM products...except louder.

No relay was needed.

thanks

get a multimeter and find someone with a i35. check how much resistance is in each horn. if its same resistance then no problem. if not run a relay

I did a swap with I30 when i first got my max, it DID WORK but it did not sound too much better. I use GM horns, Ogh boy they are sweet and loud!!
Hella's horns are great ( i got them too but replaced with OEM GM) but they do sound weird... loud but weird. Sounds like you run over a cat! GM OEM rock, the set (high and Low) was about $50 at a dealer. Ebay can get you a set for $10. No modifications of wiring was needed.

Agree on the Hellas. Got a part number or something for the GM? Were they simple plug and play? I'm loving the domestics horn sound. The imports can build such great cars, but can't get the horns right?

That's interesting after reading the post about different Horns, and I read a lot with people putting in Hella since they seem to be much better. GM? I thought it was a joke putting a GM part in a Japanese car however, I know GM horns are very loud cuz My mom had a old 80's Chevy Caprice like the old Police cars of the days they are very loud, I like that loudness. Oddly one of my friend at work has a 04 Accord and her horns are very loud very much like a GM car. I wonder why Nissan don't make our horn loud, say as the 350Z, yet I have not heard the horn on the 350Z.

I bolted up a pair of 2006 Honda Odyssey OEM horns in my '03 Maxima and for under $22 total, I had a "manly" and loud-sounding horn. Direct bolt-in, and E-Z hookup. Sweet.

Hey, I did a search and came up with a couple places. But under the description for the high tone, it says "from 5/99." There were no part numbers. Do you know if this means that only the low note changed?

i just put fiamm freeway blasters in. Here's the vid of OEM vs new.

http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=3z6aw0g

puttin the front one in was a PITMFA. the front one seems impossible to get to face the front of the car, so it aims left for the time being. haha. the actual installation was cake, but gettin your fingers and junk behind the grill sucked *****. sounds a bit less wimpy now. not bad if you ask me, and definitely not as aggrevating as the hella sound. lemme know what ya think.

That's how the 07 altima sound like too. It sounds like they are louder than the new maxima ones too.

Max'ers

Buy all the Honda, Altima and G-35 horns you want. They will be about 110 Db since there are guidelines that they all seem to adhere to.

The Fiamm Freeway blasters are a rated 130 db. The Hellas are 118 db.

Do the math.

My Fiamms hurt your ear if you stand in front and accidently set off your panic alarm.

Fiamm Freeway Blasters are a direct bolt-on for 2K2 and 2K3. Can't speak for earlier models.

if the 2ks and 2k1 are the same, which i'm assuming they are in every way, these are a direct replacement. The low note is cake, the high note is right behind the grill so get ready to have some scratched up forearms gettin to it. You may want to invest in some L-brackets, as it is kinda hard to get them facing the front of the car with the limitted wiring that goes to each horn. hth, and g'luck.

To each his own. Pesonally, I'm not looking for louder. I just want a deeper tone, not the roadrunner meeps I got now.

i bought the exact horns as the one you linked. i walked into advanced and got mine. i got notes E and F, and it sounds nothing like that one horn played in the clip on the above site. check the vid i posted for the actual sound. These are not hugely louder in reality. just a better noise.

i think someone said you can get these through amazon, but i'd call around you first and see if you can't turn some up. g'luck

Wow that is a hudge difference. Aren't decibel ratings grown exponentially?
If that is true they might actually be a lot more louder than 30% over the altima/g35 ones

so your saying that they are NOT just a bit louder but slightly deeper?
