I've noticed that my muffler has gotten louder over the last year. I've had it tested several times, and there are no leaks. I took it to Meineke and was told that one of my engine mounts was broken. He says that it's likely that the engine is lifting up and sending a vibration through the exhaust system thus creating a humming or louder muffled sound from the muffler. Can anyone shed some light on this? Any comments?

 

I think I have the same problem, though I don't really care much about it.....certainly a valid possibility, if the engine is moving and making the exhaust touch the frame someplace.

 

check the exhaust hangers also, if one broke it might start to rub on a cross-member.
