jeez, are these tires thin or what?!? put a hole in another Toyo today...

I'm not too good with tires.. can someone explain why these tires are thinnner than most others, and what tires are better quality.. I'm looking to upgrade to 17 inch rims in the near future, and would love some reccomendations on a high quality all season tire.. thanks
