Possible Transmission Problem -- Confirm/Deny

Just wanted to get other peoples input on whether I am having a transmission problem. First let me give some backround info..... 03' automatic transmission, cleaned throttle body and got the high idle problem along with the engine surging while the coming to a stop (surging while downshifting). Dealer replaced the throttle body under warranty and fixed the high idle problem. Engine still surges while downshifting but its not as bad as before. Maybe this is normal, I don't know . Now the problem I want to see if others have is that when I am driving at around 60 mph and left off the gas to coast to a stop, as I pass through 40mph (1500 rpms) and the transmission downshifts from 4th to 3rd and there is a quick drop in rpms from 1500 to about 800 and then bounces back up to about 1100. This quick drop does not seem normal to me. Can anyone else confirm/deny this happening to them? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

I had some of the same symtoms with my '00 I-30 and the quick drops in RPM.At times it would even stall. My ECU was going bad and my MAF sensor was bad..Thank goodness I was still under warranty.I didnt have a throttle body problem though.

I don't think it's the MAF because all this started after I cleaned the TB.

This has nothing to do with our cars nor is our engines similar but I once owned a '86 and an '87 cutlass supreme with 307 V-8 and in both vehicles I cleaned the carb and around all the linkage with Basic carb and Throttlebody cleaner and right after that I would crank my vehicle and Immediately the engine would idle around 4k RPM and I had to take the breather off and kick the choke manually every morning. The cars never ran right since. they would stall at stop lights and gave me pure hell until I replaced the carbs..Was it something I did? I dont know but I heard the same problem with many other people after cleaning these things..I never found a solution but someone on the forum knows whats happening..

It has nothing to do with the transmission, the problem is the TB, i have had the same problem since i cleaned my TB. If the car is still surging then the dealership didnt fix the problem. Here is the solution but u r going to need the consult II to fix it, if not i think its 100$ in the dealership. Im still waiting to get my hands on a consult II to get mine fixed since my body has one. Good Luck.
