Crazy accident need advice
Last week thursday after getting out of work i'm driving with a friend of mines and we are comming up to a traffic light. i'm in the left only turn lane while cars are in the other two lanes to my right. some kid decides to cross over three lane to make an illegal left turn at which point i didn't notice the car coming out long story short there was an accident.
here are some of the pics.
The Insurance company towed the car to one of there body shops and two days later i get a call from the insurance company who had me on a three way with the body shop and said that they car was deemed total by the body shop. The insurance company is going to be picking up the car tommorrow for the final apraisal. Do you guys think the insuarance would total it because the body shop totalled it? My personal shop came to look at the car and said it can be fixed because the frame isnt bent but its got a big dent in it that need to be fixed. if the insurance company do tota the car out do you think it might be wise for me to buy it back and have my body shop fix it? Also what do you guys think the book value would be i checked KBB and it said the car was worth $13000?
Bare in mind i'm still paying on the car.

The body shop has no say about whether a car is a total loss. A big reason why an insurance adjuster will total the car is because the airbag fix is so expensive regardless of other damage.
You might be able to buy the car back from the insurance company and not fix the bags, but whether you do or not, the resale value of the car is ruined.
The only way to break even or get ahead is to part the car out, but I would take that money and put it in another ride.
Glad you're okay.

Dayo...take the check and buy another 5.5 gen 6mt. I know you love the car in general. If you decide to do that, take off all your mods so you can readily install them when you get another 5.5 gen. thats my advice. keep me updated man. I wish you the best of luck man

That sucks man...glad u are ok but I can see why its totalled, KBB and the insurance company use different books as far as I know...I'm guessing a hood is like a 6 or 700 dollar part(from the dealer) that headlight is easily 700 bags are probly 1100/piece, bumper is 700 plus fogs, radiator, radiator supports, whatever other parts are needed from damage you cant see PLUS the labor for it all.
I bet your car is def. worth 13000 at private sale but the fact of having a big accident means your resale takes a huge hit, so I would take the money. I'm not clear on what happens when you have a lien on the car, insurance would pay the bank the loan balance of what you owe, then you get a check if there's anything left over correct? Use it for a down payment man
Plus the windshield too, forgot about that

It's a lot more than 2K in airbags. For every airbag deployment you have to replace the Airbag Controller unit or u'll never turn off that light.
I would just take their money and just buy out another car.
They like to write off a car so u can't go back after and say not this is wrong now that is wrong my bose cuts out on left side speakers or i got rattles and paint is peeling, etc.

aw man, glad to hear nobody got hurt.
well there ya go then! Sell it to maksima for $500 more than the insurance company will give it to you for! If not, dude, strip the bejesus out of that car right before the insurance company picks it up, seriously, they send a wrecker and tow it to the auction and rarely ask for the leather seats, bose, passanger headlight, tails, etc etc back, if they do then give them some crap in a box and play it off, trust me.........

Dude, take the money. Once a car has seen that much damage it will never be the same, unless you happen to find some great repair shop that does out of this world work. As far as the value of the car, a car with a salavge title is commonly worth at least %50 less then NADA book.

I worked in a collision repair shop years back, and I can tell you, that no matter how good the shop is, the car will _NEVER_ be the same!!!!! The shock from the impact affects everything in the car and while the repair shop may be able to put the car back to square and put the cosmetics back 100%, it won't age as gracefully as a car that hadn't been mashed.
And this presumes that you can find a truly qualified collision repair shop. These cars are built with high tensile strength steel, which requires a repair process that is different from cars built with cold-rolled steel. If traditional techniques are used then, well... I could go on, but.....
Shed your tears, say goodbye and take the money and run!

Take the money and move on, the amount of time and work involved in gathering all the parts and sheit for the car just isnt worth it. GL with that and hope the best for you. That sheit looks crazy!

Go to Nada .com and pull the value. That will give you a rough estimate on what you will be looking at. Every bank that I have worked for uses Nada as well as every car lot my father has sold cars at in the last 20 years. I don't know of any establishment that uses KBB. (Not that it won't be close, you never know.)

Cool we can reset the light with Consult but we had a few cars come back with the light on and we looked it up in the manual and it said for every deployment new airbag module has to be installed. this is on less than 2 year old vehicles.

Insurance totals the car if the cost to fix it is over 80% of the car's value.
First you have to fight them to make sure it is the correct value - do you have receipts for mods and such? If they screw you on the price or value of the car, then you definitely want to buy it back and part it out.
The one guy is correct that a car is never the same after a hard hit. You can also sue the guy that hit you for "loss of value" in the car.
Best of luck and don't be a push over to the insurance people if they are screwing you.
