Wheel Bearing Front Replacement
hey guys,
It looks like I need t replace my wheel bearing in the front right, I was wondering if it could be done without going to a shop? Anyone got DIY instructions, what tools would be needed? If I do take it to the shop how much is it gonna cost me

Maybe you could try calling around for estimates?

I took it to the shop to get the Tensioner changed, and belts changed, and they said the wirring/vibrating noise comming from the front right is the wheel bearing, how do you tighten the axle nuts, I'm just tryin to eliminate all the possiblities.

Had both bearings replaced but front right hub/spindle assembly was damaged to a point where I had to get another one..66702 miles
Hub/Spindle Assembly $150
Front Bearings $180 for both
Labor $240
Had the shop resurface fronts rotors, replace pads, install new Tokico blues (front only) at the same time..pads and Tokicos I already had purchased..
Total Cost $334.95 Parts/Supplies + $240 Labor + $27.63 Tax = $602.58
Ouch!!

I bit the bullet and had the dealership replace it for me. Does the "wirring/vibrating noise" you described happen when driving straight or while turning, or both? The last time I had this symptom, I didn't have a bad wheel bearing, but my drive axle splines needed to be greased. I don't think anyone else on the org had this problem. Hope you get your problem fixed soon.

Here's the breakdown of the prices when I had mine repalced at the dealership under my warranty. The total price was $736
Breakdown of parts replaced:
$418 in labor
1 - Driver's Side Bearing Assembly $82.12
1 - Driver's Side Hub Assembly $149.68
1 - Pass Side Bearing Assembly $82.12
Parts total - $313.92
Extended warranty deductible - $75
Warranty paid $660 of the total repairs.

How to check Axle splines?! I do have the humming noise, I was almost sure it was bearings, BUT the noise was slightly weird: straight line driving and it does not sound any different when I turn, even when changing lanes...
I assumed both bearings were bad then, but now reading about grease on axles, makes me wonder....
Anyone with inputs on how to check the grease on axle?
Thanks

I did this several months ago and let me tell you.... not a fun way to spend a weekend. this coming from a guy that doesn't mind replacing a motor over a weekend.
my advice.... take it to a shop

Would anyone know, I have extended warrenty and if i take it into the dealership to see if i could get this problem fixed, do you think they will give me hassles because i'm lowered and trying to get the wheelbearing changed?

best bet: go to a junkyard and buy an entire spindle assembly...I've gotten two or three of them and they usually run about $50 for the whole assembly, including spindle, hub, and bearing. Just install the whole thing, since if you have a bad bearing you might also have scarring on the outer race of the spindle (which will ruin the new bearing).
If you have the extended warranty, you might just want to switch your stock springs in real quick and take it in.....it IS covered (my first bad one was replaced under the extended warranty)....
Lowered car would give them a reasonable cause to deny warranty service, since it directly affects the bearing.
