What should Nissan HAVE done to make it for you?

Basically, what do you wish Nissan would have incorporated into the 5th gen and what existing options would you have modified?

The first thing for me would be RWD. Six speed, 3.5, RWD = sex.

After driving and almost buying an 03 M45, I love the cooled seats and voice commands for the stereo and a/c. I would absolutely pay for those options.

it's one thing to talk about changing something small, like adding cooled seats or a bigger glovebox.

but if we're going to get into the discussion of completely changing the drivetrain, engine, transmission, or other "big" items, this is bound to be a retarded discussion.

"Hey, I wish the maxima came with a small-displacement V8, all-wheel-drive, a great suspension, and looked exactly like an Audi S4. That would be awesome."

Looks like thread starter is USAF. You should pull rank on him, Jason.

I think they just should have went with a double wishbone rear and multilink front from the G20's or even just the multilink front would have been fine...otherwise I think it's a great car--it probably would be the best sport sedan ever made if it were RWD (but for being FWD, I think it still manages to embarrass a lot of RWD/AWD cars out there and in the process opens many eyes/turns many heads)...AWD is boring and any one can drive an AWD car...no excitement or skill involved from my experiences of driving them--plus it would have added too much weight...! The engine is outstanding/has potential/reliable, the tranny is more than adequate and the brakes are decent with very simple, minor upgrades--plus I like the fact that a lot of weight can easily be shed since our cars are rather heavy to start.

and no I bought a FWD maxima full knowing what FF cars are like...not complaining about it--I love it...just nice to dream about what it could be like if it were FR...not a suggestion--just a pie in the sky dream idea...

1. A turning radius that doesn't simulate a Mack truck

2. Sway bars/less loopy body roll

3. More durable paint

You know, the usual...

Other than that, few complaints

How about an HLSD 5-speed that doesn't wear out?

Non-rattling interior for super audio

And easy access to the rear of the plenum SOB.

memory seats in 2000 would have been nice... I HATE it when someone moves my seats. It takes me forever to get them perfect again.

A 5 speed auto would have been nice also.

windows that roll down when you hold the unlock button(I don't understand why Nissan skipped this feature for this gen).

for me it has to be the heated shift ****, improved turning radius, and a non-rattling interior to fix up my audio. stock projectors and sway bars would be nice too.

I'm going to have to third the 5AT notion as well as the severely horn. One of those is easily fixable, while the other not so much.

Why? It's a high-performance V6, that IS something they did right.

As for another point MAF

The thing that bothers me about the 5.5 gen is the shifting apparatus. It feels weak to me. If you've ever had to pull your stereo out you can see that most of it is made of plastic. I would have preferred aluminum, or at least something a little stronger. Wouldn't even cost Nissan that much to do.

**EDIT**
Some original statements removed, did not reflect accurate information.

on IRS, brakes and Queen Mary turning radius (<<< the Accord is FWD and has a tight turning radius, it's not a mystery).

Add an Auto headlight swith placed after Parking lights and Headlights. This is the dumbest design.

Improved stealer and NNA customer service.

I wouldn't change one thing. If I had a problem with my 5th gen I woulda bought a car that came with the options I wanted. 5th gen gave me everything I wanted for the price.

Ok, the turning radius(my parents' ugly R-class can do better) and horn also.
I remember an Auto headlight switch thread from a while back...I think the consensus was that it should be placed before the OFF position, otherwise you have to cycle through Headlights (not fun for the HID guys)

Either way would be better than the current, still used IIRC, headlight switch setup.

Yeah, I wasn't very clear. I was referring to the 5th gen on the brakes, not the 5.5. I was under the impression that the brakes for 00-01 were the same as the 4th gen, though I haven't actually researched it myself. I apologize if I'm being ignorant.

**EDIT**

The part numbers for the brakes on the 5th and 4th gens are different. I retract my statements about the brakes. Thanks LA.

Yup again, I'm ing the Cool guy. If you can do it quick enough & with enough care, you can get to the parking lights w/o switching the headlights on.

When I had my 5'th gen:

1. either standard sway bar, or get rid of the beam setup in the rear (just cheap).
2. stronger paint
3. A better stock stereo (then I wouldn't have to replace it)
4. Metal shifter stoppers instead of the rubber ones
5. 1 more gear
6. HLSD on my 2000
7. Revamp nissan customer service, because they royally suck.
8. NO MORE 5" WHEEL GAP IN THE FRONT!

Man, other than that, I really can't ***** about anything. I loved the car when I had it, and thus is the reason I am now attempting to sell my Titan and get another one (5.5 for sure). It's either a used max or a BMW 540i.
