One Tough Axle Nut

Yesterday, I broke 2 breaker bars on it - el cheapo by hand and then a good craftsman by using a big ole pipe.

Even after that, and tons of liquid wrench, my 600 FT LB torque in reverse impact wrench couldn't loosen the dang thing.

I have no clue how it got so tight. I'm the one who last replaced it and I torqued it to spec and no I didn't cross thread it.

I'm thinking I'm just going to pony up for an IR wrench that's supposed to bust them up to 1k torque. I think that ought to do it, eh . . .

holy smokes! Is there rust buildup or anything? Good luck, let us know if you're able to get it loose.

that blows can you get something from advanced auto or autozone for loan, like the spring compressor...so maybe you wouldn't have to buy a new impact wrench.

Try using PB Blaster or liquid wrench and alternate using a torch but not at the same time those things are flammable! If you are going the impact route IR is this **** I used to work on cars and I used to borrow others tech's IR's when I ran into a problem. Ingersollrand FTW

Thanks for the torch suggestion - didn't know about that. I may get one of those instead of the IR.

I broke the breaker bar all by myself
