rear bumper removal

How hard is it to remove the rear bumper? I just picked up my car in VA and drove it to KS. The dealership repainted the bumper but broke one of the clips above the rear side marker light and it sticks out a little. I have new clips but I don't want to pay a shop to do it if I can fix it myself.

It isn't that hard. If you have a way to use a lift thats great, but if not jack stand will work. Basically you need to take the rear tires off and just take off anything that holds the bumper on. Its pretty self explanatory once you get started. Having someone to help you is a big help. Not sure if you want step by step instructions...

Thanks I just needed to know if it was a simple job. I figured it was but wanted to hear from someone who had took theirs off and get an idea of what kind of problems, if any I should expect. Thanks.

Its easy, all bolts are 10mm and are visible. No need to jack up the car or take the wheels off.You do have to take off the rear lights, which are held by 8mm bolts. and move the carpeting inside the trunk to get access to 3 bolts on each side of the inner quarter panel.

You also have to remove the jack and the bracket that holds the jack on the passenger side.

maxgig,
any "speed bumps" in the process? I'm planning on doing this too. I have the service manual and all so looks straight forward but can never tell...

tsk808, I recommend putting down a blanket or something to sit the bumper on so you won't scratch the paint when you pull it off. I had my son help me undo the bolts working from the outside in. I took my time as I had another car to drive if I ran into problems, the total job with breaks and all took me almost 4 hrs.

4 hours?! The most annoying part was pulling the tail lights because of the butyl glue. That part took me a good 20 minutes of yanking. I also took my time and I did it in about 2 hours with a 20 minute lunch.

edit: but yea, good idea with the towel
