P1320 + P0300 AND got GREY DOT coils
Alright guys,
Decided to go to Nissan today to figure out why my car runs SO poorly!! I just replaced my MAF with an updated model and never "updated" my ecm to the newest version. Off to nissan. OK, after realizing that my car had already been updated (second owner), the service rep told me they're going to charge me ANYWAYS ($85) because they plugged in the OBDII. I was pissed, but they said they would charge regardless. After the diagnostics, they gave me the codes (I already knew the codes, but simply couldn't figure out why the the infamous P1320 shows often). Here are the codes:
P1320
P0300
P0141 (just need resistors)
I have the updated coils and this P0300 code is the "random misfire." I tested all my coils with the multimeter and they all came up to similar ranges (1.49 - 1.56). Performance wise, the car is very inconsistant! At times, it feels strong but most of the time, you can hear the flex section under WOT with a strong sluggish feel. Also, during cold starts, the car seems to jerk or misfire... and since it's not my MAF, it is then my coils.
Are my updated coils already starting to fail? Any other ideas guys?

Thanks guys. My other thought I was leaning towards was fuel pump? Any ideas on this? I'm at 95k and still on original. I also say this because sometimes my car doesn't "fire" up... meaning it has a very bad grinding sound... as if it's not getting any fuel/spark.

The fuel pump is electric and is in the gas tank. It might be weak, but that shouldn't cause any unusual sound in the engine.

It's almost as if the flywheel has a rock in which it is grinding it. At times, the tach will hit around 300 but the car won't start.... this usually happens when I'm low on fuel, but I believe it happened when I had a quarter tank. I did get the starter from Autozone... could this be a problem? At the second attempt to crank the car, it seems as though it "catches" something (flywheel?) and then starts (almost like symptoms of a bad starter).
Afterall, this could be because the coils are shot and isn't allowing much spark/fireup.

It sounds like you have more than one problem.
1. The engine is turning over and not starting.
2. The starter is making a noise.
I don't think they're related. It's hard to imagine that all your replacement coils are bad because even if one or two are bad some cylinders should fire while starting. I still think you should check fuel delivery and get the starter looked at.

This might not be the solution to all of your problems but it might be something to consider. You said that your car jerks/misfires when it's cold; mine did too. Even after new coils and a MAF. As a last resort I called Dave B. and he said that it's the intake plenum gasket. When it's cold the gasket doesn't seal properly and it creates a lean condition. Like I said maybe you have something different but check it out.

Sorry to highjack the thread a little, but VNECK, did this situation throw any codes? i only ask because when my car is cold i have a jerking that i was thinking was either a MAF or a programming issue. It happened when i had the dealer replace my transmission. the temp did drop about 40 degrees while it was there so maybe this is the issue.
Again, sorry for partially highjacking but no PM's to VNECK
