350z brakes on maxima?

I found a 350z in a junkyard(car caught on fire) and was looking at it and it looks like the brakes and other parts are still good on it. I belive the gas tank caught fire. I was ondering if the brakes off of the Z will bolt up (like the way the 6th gen brakes do) and if there are any other parts other than the HID's, and wheels i should get that i could possibly put on my car.

That would be an interesting swap. Yeah, I'm also wondering if your talking about the Brembo Calipers or not. I know some of the 240sx guys have swapped them and they mount directly to the hubs, just as the 300zx calipers do. So, off the top of my head, I would say that they will fit.

You said the brakes looked like they weren't damaged right? Then I assume you got a look at the calipers. The Brembo calipers are gold and have brembo on the face of them in red letters. If they are Brembos, you should know.

For your convenience: http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?p=1133074

If you read the post, I believe the only thing that had to be modified for the 240 was the diameter of the mounting hole.

Gjohnson, sorry to say but you are wrong. The calipers will not bolt up to our hub. If you ever looked at the 300zx caliper threads you would have known that you need a relocation bracket for it to fit on our cars.

300zx brakes != 350z brakes...

I haven't heard of anyone doing the swap, but that may be because the 300zx brakes can be had for so much cheaper.

Yeah, I know all about the relocation brackets. I use to talk to Matt about them back in the day when I was in the 3rd gen forums. I was under the impression that the 300zx calipers would mount directly up to our hubs, but that the increase diameter size required the brackets for clearance. (Anything larger that 300zx rotors)

It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong, but I did test fit some 26mm 300zx calipers a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't actually mount them to the hub because the mounting bolts I had were to large, but they seemed to line up properly.

I have to wait until I pickup some new wheels, before I can even consider upgrading. If I get some spare time, I might try mounting them again just to get a final answer.

They are Non Brembo's they look like my stock brake calipers just bigger, hrm so if they seem to be the same as the 300zx calipers i possibly just be able to use the 300zx relocation bracket.... that is if these non brembo's are worth it.

This is something I would like to know also.

I gotta replace my brake pads, and rotors here soon and while I am at it I may end up just upgrading the brakes too!

Base 350z brake calipers are 2 piston. It all depends on the mounting point, and if your wheels have enough clearance for the entire brake package bolt-on. If the brake calipers bolt on directly, the whole swap is easily possible, but you have to worry about offset...

LA02MAX. I believe the stock Z calipers are single piston floating, just like the maxima, although they must be pretty good as the difference between the brembos arent very big.

Id say go for it, be a pioneer. But assuming its from a Z, wreckors will probably ask a stupid amount for them, so it would probably be cheaper to go with Z32 4 pots instead.

I'm pretty sure if the Z is a vert, then they are not brembos. I think brembos only come on the track version with is only offered in hard top.

I guess they started that with the 2006 Z then. I have a friend with a base model 2006 and it has dual piston calipers...

no, the 350 either has brembos or it has 2-piston floaters (the base caliper). The base caliper I would not think is much of an improvement over the Q45 calipers or even the 6th gen, except maybe in pedal feel....

The 300zx (z32 I would assume your'e referring to) has 4-piston fixed calipers in the front and 2-piston fixed in the rear

So the 350 calipers are not th same as the 300zx.

It doesn't sound like you really know your brake stuff much, so I say with no meanness that you probably shouldn't mess with your brakes You do ave to worry about offset, brake line fitting angles (if it's different), and whether or not the rotor diameter will clear (I don't think you can direct-swap a 350 rotor, can you?)

If you want a good BBK, stop messing with somehting "new" and just go with the tried-and-true z32 setup (using matt's brackets) or a fastbrakes wilwood superlite kit. I've used both on my maxima and both are a nice upgrade in performance and in looks.

Have you upgraded your stock pads?

skyline brakes and 300zx brakes bolt right up, but you have to turn the rotor diameter down.

6th gen (2004-2007) maxima brakes are a bolt-on upgrade except I think you ahve to widen one of the holes on the spindle for 4thgens.

If you have a 99 Maxima, though, maybe you should be asking about this in the 4th gen forum, not the 5th gen forum....
