question for someone whos chaneg a rack and pinion

in the service manual it says you need to take asmall section of exhaust off to get the rack and pinion is that true ? im tryin to avoid taking apart this exhaust its gettin old. this an 02

You will be better off if you opened the thread in the 4th gen forum... I know of a few who have replaced their racks, based on those who have done it "It is a pain in the a$se job".

The only way to avoid removing the Y-Pipe is if you remove the rack & pinion from the engine bay and not underneath, but it's not possible unless the engine is out of the car. When I pulled out my engine that's the way I removed the R&P. I dont think there is another way.
