Brake Fluid Reservoir

As part of routine maintenance, I went to exchange some brake fluid from the reservoir using a turkey baster, but there is a mesh cup blocking access and it also looks like the actual reservoir opening below the mesh cup is smaller than the baster (about 3/8" dia).

I am wondering if the mesh cup is removable and if possibly that small opening is part of a piece that can be removed too?

If not, any suggestions (that don't involve a full flush/bleed)?

Why not just open your bleeders and flush it? Just have somebody catch the bleedoff and have somebody pour brake fluid in the reservoir while you pump the brakes. That's how we do it on the bikes, of course, there's a lot less fluid in the bike brakes.

I agree, bleeding is always great and gets any air or water out, plus you get to add more fluid
(and of course simple to do)
