way to "disable" the "auto" headlights?

just looking to have the "auto" function on the headlight switch be non-functional with out hacking the wiring up (like pulling a fuse of something).

i'd like to be able to turn my headlights on by myself and not have the car tell me when to lol...

thanks

The only logical reason would be to "save" the headlights from temporarily going on when you flick the stalk from off, to auto, parking lights, then to on.

If you turn it fast enough, I cannot even notice mine going on.

wow, there are smart people on here.

yes, i don't want to go "over" the auto function to go to "parking", since i don't live but a mile from work and i sometimes drive home at dusk i don't want to run my h.i.d.s for a short distance and cut the lamp life way down.

and even if you turn the stalk fast over the "auto" they still get power for a split second.

so sooner...did you search before you F'd up your T.B.?

Atleast he told us about it. God forbid someone tells us NOT to try something that will Fu-k up our cars..

Just stop talking nonsense

Oh yeah...Just disconnect your headlight harness and there you go....no more auto headlights.

I actually would like to know if there is a way to disable the AUTO function too. There are times I would like to run my clearance/running lights only, no headlights, and its kinda hard to jump over AUTO without flicking on the HIDs, which is a big no-no.

Bad idea, the voltage drop (or is it spike?) could effect the ballasts IIRC.

There is a way..its a small blue/white wire in a harness IIRC. If you really want I can go and look for it. I cut this wire in 2003 when I was trying to use stock wiring for my components. However, if you cut the wire, when you flick on the high beams there is no high beam indicator on the dash. So you may drive around with your high beams on and not know it.

True.. it is hard to skip over the AUTO function to the parking lights. But why would you wanna be "that guy" and ride around with parking lights on. You have HID's ... Represent and turn the damn things on.

And if you're worried about cutting the "lamp life" down... do you also worry about cutting down "tread life" on the tires when you drive? haha j/k/a

Well, I love my HIDs, but there are certain times (not at night) that I like to have my parking lights on only. Sometimes for show, sometimes at sunset, etc...

IIRC, the Consult can change the timing of the AUTO position, maybe it can just shut it off as well?

If you want to bypass and not have the auto function work, why not just cut the wire going to the light-sensor? This way, it won't receive ground from the sensor needed to power the headlights in auto mode.

Does anyone know how much impact to bulb life this actually has? Is it like plasma TVs, that don't last as long as LCDs (but last for something like 12 years of constant use...and no, I don't know the exact number )

My 2k3 has had the lights switched to auto since I bought it in October 2002, and the lights would always pop on in my garage, and the parking garage, at least twice a day each. So conservatively, that's around 6,500 "too short" power cycles, never mind driving at night. Lights still going strong...

what do "you" mean by "disabling" the "auto feature" that would "require" you to put "IT" in quotation marks"."

and for the record, i assume you've already seen a high number of hid users that have blown bulbs. i mean that would be the only real reason this has turned into such a big concern, right?

if your bulbs have blown, please reply to this.
