bad tire day

So um... I was driving to work Friday morning and someone honked and told me something was wrong with my left rear tire. I figured it was a flat so I started pulling off the freeway when suddenly it sounded like an explosion combined with a bunch of flapping.

defective tire? sabaotage? road debris? who knows really.

careful driving fellas! :ugh:

Andrew 05-19-2007 09:52 PM

Probably a defective tire. Glad to hear that you're ok....

btw, what kind of rims are those?

2k3TitaniumSe 05-19-2007 09:57 PM

Sorry to hear but glad it isn't any worse.

The wheels are Enkei RP-f1 IIRC.

monty31 05-19-2007 09:58 PM

Are those tires really stretched or is it just me?

00MaxSE 05-19-2007 10:16 PM

Yowch! Glad it didn't harm anything else. The rim looks ok no?

miragetkg 05-19-2007 11:06 PM

That's terrible. Lucky you didn't get hurt.

808MAX-SPEC 05-19-2007 11:14 PM

At least someone was nice enough to let you know something was wrong with your tire. But what a way to start the weekend.

Larrio Motors 05-19-2007 11:25 PM

I'm curious as to how the tire looked before it went out. :D

Yes, they are Enkei wheels... special order.

MorpheusZero 05-20-2007 12:05 AM

O_O Wow... at least there was some sidewall left to somewhat protect the rim...

What kind of tire was that?

lalaMAX 05-20-2007 02:28 AM

are those kuhmo ecsta supra? looks similar to the one i m having... glad u r ok

Larrio Motors 05-20-2007 03:07 AM

tires are Falken Fk-451's, which are now replaced by the new FK-452.

Luckily the rim looks okay so far, I haven't taken it off the car yet. It separated perfectly from the bead on both sides.

And no the tire is definitely NOT stretched... its a 275/35 on a 18x9.5 inch wheel. The fronts are a different story :D

Kevlo911 05-20-2007 08:05 AM

The rear is just a teeny bit wider than the front. (by 0.5 inches)

A33 VQ30DEK 05-20-2007 09:22 PM

So how about the tires? :grinno:

MixSE 05-21-2007 03:26 AM

Damn, good thing it just the tire though.

I picked up a nail in my tire yesterday, I hope the same thing doesn't happen to me. :run: :noes:

Lontar1 05-21-2007 04:57 AM

bad day I see, good nothing major happened ... After washing the car I realiza that I have to replace my front tires... one of them has a crack all over the side wall, so tonight going back to the original rims until I can get the $$ to buy new tires........

Torchcorvette 05-21-2007 05:24 AM

Had the same problem year ago with a 1985 Caddy Seville......tread separated....tire folks said it just happens sometime...

soundmike 05-21-2007 06:04 AM

Darn, glad you're okay!

Interesting to note though, as i was researching tires the past two weeks i came across another car forum with a user posting pics of the same exact failure on his 451's. I only took down notes on the pros/cons of tires though, can't recall anymore which forum i saw that post in.

Larrio Motors 05-22-2007 09:21 AM

yikes! Well I didn't replace them with Falkens so hopefully it won't happen again in this lifetime.

morpheus: as for the tires, hehe. Thats 0.5 inches wider per side, per tire ... just a wee bit :D

ManUtd18 05-22-2007 09:26 AM

I would def. say that is one bad tire day.

AnDyMaN 05-22-2007 10:33 AM

i concur........

97gshogun 05-22-2007 11:13 AM

that sux *** man!! but glad that your ok

nismomaxima01 05-22-2007 07:52 PM

Good thing you are ok. Man that could have ended ugly.

Larrio Motors 05-22-2007 08:00 PM

culprit found: 4-5 inch nail inside the remains of the tire tread and some tears.

e-brake cable is toast, sheet metal is bent, some plastic covers missing. But the wheel survived without a scratch!

1FSTMAX 05-22-2007 08:12 PM

thank god it was just a tire and nothing more.. glad to see you're ok larry!

You didn't put on 452s?

Larrio Motors 05-23-2007 08:21 AM

lost faith in the company.

A friend's FK-451 just came apart like mine on the highway a few days ago also. I believe Falkens are made by Yokohama, so i'm not buying those tires also.

joebangaa 05-23-2007 08:45 AM

I'm pretty sure it's Falken/Sumitomo/Dunlop. I had no idea Yokohama was involved with them.

piotroosh 05-23-2007 01:09 PM

my question is... why is your max on the flatbed? ;-)
no spare ? ;-)

wheel lock > me

I didn't have them with me on the car so I couldn't put the spare on.

Falken 512 ftw

The Law 05-23-2007 11:06 PM

Larry,

What tires do you have on the rims now? Cause I want to try the 452s but now I'm affraid to go to falken.

joebangaa 05-24-2007 01:16 AM

It appears that the problem was isolated to the 451 model...

Most important part. Screw the functioning brake and sheetmetal, as long as it still looks cool. :D

lol...

Falken 512's All Seasons FTL :chairshot

I have some Riken tires right now. It was the only thing available but the tread pattern and specs looked good so I opted for those for now.
